  • I don’t have a fitbit, nor have I ever owned one. I think they’re quite expensive, and I prefer wearing a regular watch.

  • I went through 4 fitbits with battery issues before changing to garmin and have never looked back.

  • I came here to read the answers. I don’t have a fitbit.

  • I have a fitbit HR but somtimes its not very acurate it says i was sleeping when i was awake.

  • I have considered getting one of these also. But I’m put off because I think it will be another one of those gadgets that I use for a little while and then it gets relegated to the back of the cupboard or drawer, where a lot of my great ideas end up

  • ive been looking at these also. I really like the thought of these, sounds like the Garmin Vivofit is the way to go, so il be looking for one today YAY
    Thank you

  • I have a new Garmin Vivofit and it’s great! I find it motivating (when I remember to wear it!)

  • I had wondered this too! I wonder if a Garmin Vivofit would be better for me…though I worry these devices can increase obsessive tendencies and take away from just enjoying life. Still not sure!!

  • they have a new fitbit out that’s also monitors your heart more expensive wondering if worth paying the extra.

  • I prefer the Jawbone up24.

  • I have a Garmin vivofit and I love it!!!
It tracks my steps, my one has a heartrate monitor and tracks your sleep as well.
I compete with other mums in my area on their app and it links up with my fitness pal when I count calories.

  • I have the Garmin Vivofit too and love it. The advantages of the garmin are it has all the info on a screen on the device so you can clearly see the time, date, steps taken, kms travelled, calories burned at the press of a button (you don’t have to sync to the app to see it). It has a long battery life – you can go up to a year without charging whereas fitbit needs charging weekly. The connect app is quite good – gives you badges for certain accomplishments and you can let it set you a target (or set your own). It also tracks your movement in sleep. If you have been inactive for an hour it gives you a red line across the top, then an additional dash for every 15 minutes after that. You have to get up and move to get rid of the red. That’s motivation for me!
I previously had a cheap knock off from groupon too and the garmin is 1000x better!

  • I’m really not worried about my info going back to the company but I would be worried if it doesn’t sync properly and people have trouble with them all the time…hmmm…

  • I got Garmin Vivofit with the Flybuys points just last month. You could get it using half of the normal points so it was a great deal. I synchronize it every day with with laptop. A fantastic way to keep track of how many steps you do in a day. I wear it all day and night, so I can also monitor my sleep. What I don’t like is that the Garmin server has being having issues, so it’s now 4 days I can’t upload my data. It’s really not a huge deal because the Vivofit can store data for up to a month, but I just find it a little annoying and I hope it won’t be a constant problem.

  • I have the fitbit zip. I won it in Oct and I must say I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It has a great battery life and synced to the free app on my iPhone. My only gripe is the calorie counter!!! They haven’t included the Australian food count and while they say ohh you know you can just use the American one…yeah you really can’t, their food count is waaay different to ours. Since having the Zip I’ve read up on the other models currently available (the flex wristband) and its capabilities. If I’d had a had the choice of models personally I would’ve chosen the flex simply because it has the sleep tracker. I’m very interested in the new flex model set for release later this year which is advertised to include features such as heart rate tracker, sleep tracker, GPS and updated calorie counter.

  • This is a great topic. I am interested in this as well.
Great to hear different opinions before forking out to buy one.

  • I recently got a similar watch from Groupon and did not sync they happy refunded after free return postage. This has put me off getting them.

  • I hear a lot of people have trouble when they try to sync the information with the app, not sure if it’s true?

  • I was going to get one, but then I read an article that says that the app actually transmits much of your data back to the manufacturer; that although it’s supposed to be non-identifiable it can in fact be linked back to you very easily; and that there have already been several court cases in the US in which data from fitbits and similar devices have been used against the wearer (eg to dispute medical evidence). This put me right off them. I thought the information would be private, but no.

  • Thanks for asking was about to post a question asking the same thing, always good to hear what others think
