Is a personal trainer expensive and is it worth getting one?

  • I have trained with a few personal trainers. Depending on what type of fitness goals you’re looking for it might take some time to find a good fit for you. $40- $50 for half an hour is about standard.


  • A group of school mums and I – about six of us – worked with a personal trainer for a while. Really worthwhile, as he personalised the exercises to us. We only stopped because he moved interstate.


  • Not yet but am currently looking into getting one to help with motivation and direction. Is a short term plan due to cost


  • For me, a personal trainer would be a godsend. I lack motivation so having someone on hand to push me would be exactly what I need. I imagine they would be quite costly though, so I’ve never looked into onefor myself

  • No don’t get a personal trainer. I’m on a programme called 28 by Sam Wood. It’s an online exercise and food program where they give you half an hour of exercise to do per day and a list of food and recipes to cook per day. It’s easy, I have lost 22 kgs and it cost just $49 a month. I’m not promoting this program just sharing what worked for me.


  • Personal trainers are not cheap but I know friends that have got 2 or 3 people together so they can share the expense.


  • I don’t but I think it’s great to try out for a few sessions to help build motivation abs then when you get some good workout ideas, I would stop using them and possibly get a buddy like partner for friend to workout with.’


  • I don’t but a friend of mine sees one and she loves it. As much as she never wants to go, after her workout she feels and looks great!


  • No but I really need something to motivate me to maintain my exercise. I’ve been seeing a physio for a few conditions and she’s been great at developing a plan for me to gradually build up my running but then it’s up to me to do it at home and often I get a bit lazy. I’m wanting to increase my health and fitness so rather than see a PT who might not have a great understanding of my health conditions, I’m going to sign up for private and group pilates classes with my physio.


  • I would say yes they are expensive BUT you can always go a couple of times and ask them to do an exercise plan as you’re wary of the financial cost and they will happily do one that way you can follow the plan on your own and save $$ :)


  • No I don’t have a personal trainer but I think I should! Cost is an issue with me too. I thought about one to get me started & again when motivation bottoms out or if I’m not getting results I’m after.


  • The price you’ll pay for a personal trainer varies greatly. I’ll be using one next year where the more classes i do, the cheaper it gets. So it might be $15 for 1 class or $25 for two.


  • Never had one and would like to see if it is worth it, my sister has one but i havent seen any really good reasults from it, not that i would tell her that…


  • No. Don’t have one but think they can be useful if you are ‘no idea’ where to start, have the money and aren’t interested in googling a few fitness routines to make a program yourself. If you have a little idea what you are doing, and are motivated to do a bit of reading about exercises that target what you want, then I think that you can achieve heaps on your own. They are there to motivate and perhaps show you a few routines but at the end of the day it is down to you and your goals. Can be fun designing something yourself too.

  • I had a PT, once a week, and did group training to.
    I found l work hard with a PT or in a group.
    They are great but can be expensive, even if you have a few PT sessions to gain an idea of what exercises you can do then every few weeks get another pt session.
    If you are in a gym try classes.


  • I definitely need help with motivation for losing weight, but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable with a personal trainer.
