Hello!

I am interested in everyone else’s experiences, is this just a Sydney thing or is this Australia wide?

  • It is ridiculous the amount of time you have to wait for an appointment. Medication issues are the worst. If the Dr increases dosage or changes medication it is near impossible to get back in to see the Dr for weeks. They tend to only have appointments during school hours also. I found that whilst my childs Dr was great (retired now), he was always on holidays for weeks at a time. Whilst you have a paed, you cannot make a general appointment with any other one while you wait for them to return. I suggest making multiple appointments in advance, especially if there are to be changes to medication – you can always call to cancel an appointment if you don’t need it so soon, but unless you’re lucky enough to get in on the cancellation list, you will be looking at waiting weeks or months to be seen.

  • yes unfortunately, My son needed an assessment for adhd it took 2 years to get an appointment with a pead

  • In Sydney here, we’re waiting 9+ months

  • We haven’t had any issues in Northern NSW but the paediatrician was booked out but fit us in.

  • We are in Tassie and friends have had awful times with waiting lists for all sorts of specialities

  • I’m in Sydney and the wait time was several weeks. It was also hard to get them on the phone and they said they were “triaging” the appointments (we had to email the referral through).

  • Depends on public vs private and also which dr you see. Some have longer wait times than others

  • We didn’t have a problem in the ACT, but the one time we used one (instead of our GP), we had a referral after a hospital stay. So that might have sped things up.

  • If public paed then it’s Australia wide. We ended up paying for a private paed so we could get in quicker.

  • Can’t help you buy wishing you luck…I.heard it quite long time

  • Definitely Australia wide, it’s months before you get in

  • I had to wait for 18 months, closer to 24 months before seeing ours. Longest waiting period ever. I’m in Adelaide.

  • Yes sadly its a waiting game especially if you dont have private cover

  • Definitely Australia wide. In my professional life I see parents having to wait months and months for appointments.

  • It’s Australia wide unfortunately, it took us 9 months to get into a pedestrian for our son
