  • Some good answers here. There is a lot of info on the internet too – you could google. I agree though that the best stop would be an optometrist.

  • My uncle has Macular degeneration. He was diagnosed a few years ago and was receiving treatment that seemed to be slowing its progress but being a very silly man got tired of having to wait for his treatments at the clinic and stopped going. He is now officially blind and regretful of his actions but too late to do anything. It is an inherited condition and please do not ignore it if you have been diagnosed.

  • Thanks for the good answers moms!

  • A visit to the optometrist is such a good idea!

  • i think that the optometrist can detect it really early so pop by!

  • My Dad was diagnosed last year with MD only because he went for a general eye test and they found out by accident . The best thing to do is if you are concerned for any reason , pop in to see your local optometrist and raise the concern with him/her. You will be advised to see an eye specialist for a special scan if needed . I was worried I had it but I ended up having a retina gap ( small hole ) in my retina instead which is not related to MD at all. Hope everything goes well anyway .

  • My mother in law suffers from this – quite a big problem that requires ongoing treatment to prevent further degeneration of the eye. Speak to your specialist, and try google for more information.
