Hello!

My hair is going grey fast and I am happily letting it go grey naturally. I like the grey as it is a beautiful colour. I would need to dye it every two weeks to tackle the regrowth. Interestingly, I have had plenty of comments about my hair and some positive and some negative. Women have commented on how lovely it looks and men have made the comment “looks like you need your roots done!” The latest comment was “are you near retirement age?” Retirement is a long, long way off! These comments do amuse me but also sadden me with stereotyping. I will continue with it going grey as I am confident within myself and my choices and hair colour or lack of does not define me. It is an individual choice and I make no judgement on anyone for colouring their hair as it is an individual choice. I am simply interested in other people’s experiences/stories with going grey/not going grey and their feelings about hair and age. Do others think it ages a person? Or is it in the mind?

  • I think it does. I do mine every 4 weeks, needs to be done every fortnight but too pricey so wear it up the last few weeks

  • Good on you ! I agree that grey hair can be beautiful and no, in my opinion it doesn’t mean you’re aging. I had a colleague who started getting grey hairs when she was in her twenties.

  • I had a friend getting grey hairs in her teens. Didn’t make her look any older.

  • Do what you want to do not what other people expect you to do!

  • No, I don’t think that grey hair ages a person per definition. Grey can be beautiful and can start at young age indeed. Good on you for feeling confident.
Of course there is a time we all age sooner or later, it’s part of life and reality. Many people see it as something negative and it’s the question why. There’s beauty and wisdom in age

  • I love the silver/grey look.

  • One hundred per cent the natural option. Life is too short to always be trying to hold back the hands of time

  • I have seen some women who are actually putting grey though their hair! I’m aging gracefully, can’t be bothered with the maintenance of regular hair colouring

  • I’ll be going grey naturally. I have all kinds of reactions to dyes and the such. Its not worth the worry about what people think against putting unnatural dyes on my scalp.

  • I know I have a silver strand here and there and my daughter oicked up on it . It must have been obvious for her to announce it out loud . I honestly don’t care because I believe in ageing gracefully . I do want to make sure it is still in healthy condition which is more of a concern than the actual colour . I am worried of all the dyes and toxins that is put into hair these days so that scares me more than getting grey hair .

  • I had to stop using hair dyes as my scalp became irritated & I’ve just accepted I can live with grey hair. My granddaughter says it is silver!

  • I think whether you colour your hair or not depends on what it looks like and how you feel. In my case the grey/white hair doesn’t look good. I wish it did because I don’t really like having to colour my hair.

  • Yes,it does make you look older,do whatever makes you happy.

  • I think it ages a person. Grey hair is usually seen on older people so of course it ages people. I’m with you though, no time for the regular hair colourings, let it go. Bring it on!

  • I reckon all these girls and women look grey now with all those colours and tonies in there hair. Be yourself, be natural its best I think.

  • To be perfectly honest with you, yes it does age a person. I’ve been in your situation. Let my hair go grey and it did age me and I never felt comfortable with it, so I dye it. Your choice.

  • This make me sad (and annoyed) that people think it’s OK to make comments that are hurtful. I say do what you want!

  • I had a friend who went grey in her early 30’s and in that case she dyes her hair which is probably a good decision but when you are getting older I think going grey naturally is better than dyeing your hair as it looks more natural.

  • My mum is 73 and has grey hair but still got her brown hair as well never dyed it looks good.

  • I am 31, I only have a few grey hairs.. lol However, I was thinking about going light grey with pink ombre at the bottom! It is in fashion these days (grey i mean)!
