I got foils done at the hairdresser. with foils the chemicals don’t actually touch your scalp, so I felt a little better about that, but i also made sure to tell the hairdresser that I was concerned about it so she was extra careful.

The recommendation is that you don’t. I had mine done once but it wasn’t bleached. They are not really sure if the chemicals used can harm a baby so it’s probably best not to.

When I was pregnant I did twice, once after the 12 weeks than the week before I gave birth, however I did not use bleach, I thought I is too strong/harmful for the baby…

I try not to. Maybe only once or twice.

Plenty of answers on this thread. I personally wouldn’t for a lot of the reasons mentioned below.

i would be concerned about the fumes you inhale as you have to wait so long before they wash the surplus of your hair . I would never consider it while pregnant as the fumes made me feel nauseos and light headed anyway.

it is up to the person but i suggest that you not risk it and get foils instead so the bleach won’t touch your scalp. As a hairdresser, it is your choice but i wouldn’t do it personally. I worked with a pregnant hairdresser at the time and she still applied colour etc normally (as per her job) but she was advised to just stay away from the fumes as much as possible.

I tried to dye my hair (and tint my lashes) whilst pregnant and found that the colour did not take. I read that some people have this issue due to the hormonal changes. With respect to safety, I have read that it should be okay but that it’s best to wait until after the first trimester.

I coloured my hair. I made sure there was plenty of ventilation & picked less chemical based dyes.

I bleach mine but I waited until I was in my second trimester just incase, make sure when doing it your in a well ventlated area.

I Dyed my hair but only about half the time of what i did while not pregnant. But i have never bleached my hair so couldnt give you a trueful answer.

It’s unknown on the true risks of dying or bleaching hair while pregnant. Personally I have always erred on the side of caution and stayed away from it all, especially because we do know that we absorb so much through our skin.

I did not and do not dye my hair, but was advised against it anyway!

My obstetrician said there was no definitive proof either way, but he’d recommend against it because the dye/ toxins could cross the placental barrier.

I dyed my hair during both my pregnancies.

When I was pregnant I was informed by others you shouldn’t even perm your hair or use anything with chemicals etc. That is because the skin will absorb into your body and somehow will pass onto your baby etc. Give your doctor a quick ring, it is no point in being upset with your mum as it won’t give you the answers you want to hear .
