Hello!

I’m due with bub number 2 and was just wondering what other mums thought about sterilizers. I had an electric one with my first and found it good but they are expensive so was thinking about a microwave one, is there a difference? Thanks in advance :)

  • I breast fed my babies. But when they eventually moved onto the bottle, I washed them in hot soapy water, rinsed them in hot water and then boiled them in a pot on the stove for 10 to 20 minutes

  • Microwave ones are inexpensive (especially second hand) and are extremely simple to use.

  • I have heard of the microwave one and never the electric one so that must be a new product. I was very fortunate when I was pregnant my workmates got me the manual steriliser ( plastic square container “) and you need to buy the tablets with it . It was so handy as I had to bottle feed my two kids and used it for both of them. The only concern I have about the microwave is the radiation from the oven so not sure about that one . If all else fails the old fashion way is to boil the bottles in boiling water for a few minutes like what my mother used to do for all four of us .

  • First pregnancy, we had an electric one, it was expensive but I loved it.
Second pregnancy, we bought a microwave one, was so much cheaper and did the same job. Wish I had just saved the money and bought a microwave one the first time around

  • I only used my electric one but loved it!

  • Both work well,
I have a microwave one and I found that fine, but wouldn’t knock back and electric one if I had the opportunity,

  • I use electric but only cause I had it given to me but I love being able to have everything together I one tub out the way I don’t think there would be much difference they all do the same thing

  • Tommee tippee electric steriliser is the best

  • i use electric but boiling them in hot water for 5 minutes work just as well. i don’t like the thought of using the microwave because of the chemicals that come off the plastic in the bottles.

  • Electric, did you know microwaves are banned in Germany, google and find out why and you will never use one ever again, trust me!

  • Could you look at hiring one? I have heard this can be quite handy! I’ve never used bottles so cannot give an opinion either way

  • Hey there. I personally would recommend microwave as they are so easy and quick to use !! Good luck.

  • I’m using a microwave steriliser for my 14 week old. We got the closer to nature one for $34 on sale. It’s does 4 at once and only takes 4 mins so quick and easy even my husband can do it!! Hehe!!

  • i use a microwave one i find it to be great, and cleans fine. and so much cheaper then an electric

  • I used an electric one in hospital and have a microwave sterilizer at home, not much of a difference really, both work as well as each other, both require the same amount of cleaning. The only bonus is that the microwave one is by far cheaper.

  • Microwave ones work just as well but electric ones are convenient if you have the bench space

  • I really liked the microwave one:)

  • My preference was electric because I don’t like using a microwave much. But I’ve heard microwave ones are just as effective.

  • we really like the microwave one

  • I found my microwave steriliser excellent – fast, easy to use, and effective.
