Hello!

This MoM Member is looking for tips on Exercising At Home With A Baby. Have you been in this situation?  Can you help with ideas for Exercising At Home With A Baby?

Here’s what she said …

I’m looking for some advice on getting into a good exercise routine while home on maternity leave with a 3 month old and a toddler.

We go for walks together, but I’d like to do some other types of training and my preference is something virtual that I can do at home (feel a bit anxious taking my kids out in the pandemic).

The baby doesn’t let me put him down for more than 5 minutes so bonus points if it’s something I can do with him!

Keen to hear of any free or affordable online training or classes you’ve used!

  • I would think a quick google would bring up many results

  • I think you can do any exercise programs, pilates, yoga (or whatever you would prefer) online. I would look if you can involve your 3 yr old , could be a lot of fun !

  • Kanga training on YouTube? Baby goes In baby carrier.

  • I loved “healthy mummy App” for workouts

  • I’ve seen virtual classes that are designed for Mum’s who are wearing their baby on them in a baby bjorn type of carrier. I haven’t looked any further into it though as my toddler is too big for a baby bjorn so it was of no use.
My kids think it’s fun to watch me while I’m doing my workout, sometimes getting cans of food out of the cupboard to try to use as their weights, if that’s what I’m doing.

  • I find youtube videos the way to go. Zumba is great with kids because of the colour and music. If you want a quick workout Chloe Ting is your girl! If you want to start a workout plan Sydney Cummings has sooo many different options and you could use them as dumbbells I guess?!

  • Theres a bunch of instagram and youtube and local gyms are offering online workouts as well, which has all the online videos etc, which you can pause. Google and see how you go. I worked out with my youngest, in a baby carrier until he was 19 months old. he loved the movement and would often fall asleep. good luck

  • Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I find it really challenging to navigate YouTube and Instagram so it’s really helpful to get some suggestions of who you all follow. I’m especially loving the Grow with Jo videos – my 3 year old is enjoying dancing along with me too!

  • I love using the Sweat app – you can pause the workout as often as you like and the baby can do tummy time while you workout and the toddler can join in!

  • I do 10 minutes of skipping a day! Lay blankets outside for bub to play on and skip away. I find my 6 month old enjoys watching me and the trees/grass.

  • I used the Sweat app prior to pregnancy then did a bit on and off while my son was young there are some “express” workouts which are about 15mins. But you have to pay subscription for the app.
Bubs2bikinis on instagram is great also she showed a few workouts which included holding her son while young.

  • I’d recommend a treadmill, but that’s potentially dangerous with small kids. Think about getting some DVDs – dancing, pilates, yoga, whatever rocks your boat – and working out with those.

  • I found the youtube channel Madfit to have a great range of workouts to suit my mood and timeline, from 5 minutes to multiple vids. Some fun dance based workouts also and totally free!

  • YouTube and Instagram have been great for me. There’s a few personal trainers who do baby work outs hehe. Good luck with your journey

  • Look up grow with jo on YouTube. I have 3 kids 4, 3 and 1 and also struggle to find the time to work out. I try to do this when my youngest naps.

  • I think you can do any exercise programs, pilates, yoga or whatever you would prefer online.

  • Jump on YouTube. I used to find 20 min workouts using hand weights on there. My baby just laughs at me while I’m exercising. I have him on the floor and give him kisses with every squat etc. Bub thinks im dancing around entertaining him I think.

  • I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old.
I do squats while holding onto my 5 month old as he is like yours and won’t let me put him down for 5 seconds and I get my toddler to join in and copy.
Then I work my arms out by lifting him up and down lol. That’s about as far as I go in terms of exercise.

  • I wish to know…that was mine plan 3yo and still didn’t happen

  • These are very short but Andy’s Wild workouts might ease your little ones into exercise routines. They are a bit of fun!
