Eye twitching - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Has anyone else experienced long periods of eye twitching? I have googled it and tried a few things but nothing is helping, it just won’t go away. I even had it in both eyes for two days but has now gone back done to just the right eye. I am off to the doctor next week and plan to bring it up but wondered what advice or tips you might have if you have had this yourself.

  • Hi yes I get this occasionally. I put it down to nerves and stress. Its interesting others comments on this. Never remenber to ask my doctor about it. Suppose I probably should, mental note taken and on memo board. I bet I still forget. Anyway good luck will follow up

  • This happens to me when I’m tired or stressed – more than the usual Mum stuff! It is often just one eye but sometimes both. It’s frustrating when it happens but the more I notice it, the worse it gets. Mindfulness and targeted relaxation helps a little.
If it’s new for you and ongoing though a GP opinion is definitely a good idea, did you mention it at your appointment?

  • I remember just after I married and moved from the Netherlands to Northern Ireland and suddenly had to speak English all day I had eye twitching all the time. I was continuously concentrating on translating from Dutch to English and from English to Dutch in my head and that was very exhausting and the twitching of the eye muscles was just a sign of stress and fatigue

  • I agree with the previous reply about it being eye fatigue, but in addition just general fatigue can cause it. So try to get as much also as you can, call the body as much as possible (yes that’s incredibly easy as a mother!) and see if that helps at all

  • I’ve definitely experienced this many times. Sometimes it will be a one off, other times something that sticks around. I asked my Dr husband what it could be, he said the most common cause is eye fatigue. Usually from not blinking enough and doing things like staring at screens for too long (definitely guilty of that).
