Hello!

I’ve started feeding my 7 month old half a wheetbix in the mornings. I had a little bit of hot water and the juice from stewed pears. I’ve been making up formula to go in it… can I just use normal milk since it’s such a small amount? Also is it ok to be giving a normal wheetbix at this age? He hates rice cereal and porridge. I don’t want to buy the kids version just for a half each morning when we already buy a big box of normal?

  • My kids have always had weetbix from 6 months onwards with normal full cream milk. As long as they are still getting nutrition from breast feeding or formula bottles, it’s no problem at all

  • Yes. It’s only a small amount and its in conjunction with the weetbix. My son was having weetbix and milk from about 7 months too.

  • Weetbix is fine, my 9 month old love weetbix and cows milk for breakfast. They are allowed cows milk- just not to replace their formula or breastmilk, but in their food is fine

  • My kids also ate weetbix at this age.It would be fine.

  • I fed my girls weetbix from 5 months of age, the way you do. They also hated baby rice, so I did what was right for them. Good job on doing what is right for your baby.. Best wishes

  • Both my babies have been breastfeed and my current 11 month old is breastfeed and I used cow’s milk when giving them Weet-Bix. Both started about the same age as your bub. One of my kids loved it the other didn’t. A bit of cow’s milk should be fine.

  • Normal weetbix should be fine. I’d use formula, but check with your doctor – they’d be more current with information.

  • Go for it! My kids preferred Weetabix over rice cereal. It also allows their tummy to slowly digest cow’s milk.

  • My kids grew up on weetbix. I added hot water and tinned milk and they loved it, still do. Seven months old is a perfectly good age to introduce normal cows milk

  • Most of my kids were having wheetbix, or something like it, by 7months. I also breast fed all of mine but used either normal or formulae with the wheetbix – depending on the child as some had allergies to dairy.

  • Yes that’s fine. Mine loved weetbix

  • I breastfed my babes, so I used some expressed milk, I don’t think formula would differ.

  • If you crush the weetbix to the size that baby rice or oats are I think it should be OK. If you are giving him formula maybe take a little out of his bottle.
