Hello!

We have been having alot of issues with breast feeding and my milk supply is drying up. Every time we give my 6 month old formula he throws up all of it an hour later. He was 4weeks early and started off on formula. I have tried a few different formulas but he does the same thing everytime. Please help!

  • My 6 month old was recently involved with a product trial for a new type of formula. This is something quite different and I decided to join the trial as my baby was having trouble with all formulas we have tried. It is a product made from something called Shegoa Milk which is a combination of goat and sheep milk. My baby used this new formula for just over one month and for the first time did not throw up and was much more content. I understand this formula can work well for babies and infants that have a cow’s milk intolerance. This formula is made in New Zealand and I understand it will be available in supermarkets in both NZ and Australia by the middle of 2017. For mothers that have to use infant formula it is good to know there are some new alternatives coming.

  • Contact your paeditricain . Vomiting maybe caused by reflux ( which both my kids had ) or perhaps lactose intolerance . Best to see a professional as vomiting is never good for a baby .

  • Reflux maybe? Try novalac it’s a bit more pricey by works a treat. Xx

  • it would be best to go to your dr and talk to them about it

  • Make sure the bottle isn’t too fast for him, sometimes when it’s too fast they swallow a lot of air at the same time which could cause him to spew when he tries to burp. I used s26 ar for a while which thickens in their stomach. This worked well for my little one.

  • I use the NAN comfort for my little one to top her off and she has never had any trouble with it. It contains probiotics so it keeps their tummys more settled

  • there are some good comments here

  • take him to a doctor they could help you more

  • keep pumping, you can reestablish breast supply, contact the breast feeding association, they can also be a great help in choosing a formula

  • try caricare goats milk formula. Its a lifesaver .

  • I would say check with the midwife. Sometime they suggest brand or give you a preparation guide which will suit your child.

  • My girl was a ‘spewer’ too – but did NOT suffer reflux as the doctor said she would be in discomfort if she had reflux and she was always super happy. The spewing is inconvenient but as long as he is gaining weight and is happy I wouldn’t worry about it. Don’t use HA formula unless doctor has told you so as it often causes constipation. My girl gradually stopped but she was a good 4-5 months old when it stopped! I bought heaps of cute ‘scarf-bibs’ on eBay to still make her look nice and that saved me heaps of washing! I always carried spare tops for myself as well. Good luck!

  • Check with your child health nurse – they could suggest appropriate formulas for you to try.

  • Goodluck in finding your answers and a suitable formula for your little one

  • Our second child suffered from terrible reflux for the first 6months of her life and she had both breast and formula milk. My milk dried up too. We tried S26 AR which worked for awhile but her vomiting came back. We then researched and in the end we went with NAN H.A Gold and we used a feed thickener which worked wonders and then over time we were able to reduce the thickener until we now haven’t used it for over 2 months.

  • Hi there, i know how you feel with your little one always throwing up my little boy was like that my breast milk was drying out very quick so we mix fed him and noticed he was throwing everything up. like you i tried lots of different brands etc, i found the Karicare Aptimel AR worked the best. give it a try

  • Both my children were bottle feed with s26 original. We started out this issues and went to this formula because it had no probiotics. Firstly I would see Dr or Early Childhood nurse then go from there. Could even be they type of bottle or teet used as someone else mentioned.

  • Try using different bottles, the Dr Brown bottles has the air flow tube in them but see your GP or nurse and they might suggest a different formula. I held up my son for at least half and hour after his milk to let it settle before putting him down, maybe try that as well

  • Speak to the professionals they can give you great advice on both breastfeeding , increasing your supply and finding the right milk for your baby

  • S26 is a mild formula to try and is bub throwing up everything or just wind burp milk? If he is still gaining weight I wouldn’t be too concerned
