Hello!

Ok so I was bf my now 3 month old but have struggled for the last 3 months, which is no surprise as I did with all my children. I was just wondering if any mums out there know if there really a difference between formula’s and if there really is one that is better then the rest? This is something that I have to do for the health of my baby not something I want to do… I would of loved to continue to bf but unfortunately it is not possible and I have done all I can to make it possible. Thanks in advance

  • Interestingly I tried Goats Formula, and every formula under the sun, my son lost so much weight as a new baby… Me feeding him was not an option… THEN after lots of money, daily nurse visits and many different food types I purchased a cheap Coles sold formula Lactogen it was, and he slept for 12 hours – I didn’t sleep at all, for the worry LOL. He is now 6′ 4″ and very healthy!

  • I agree with other comments, unless there are allergies, just try one formula for a week or so and see how you go. If bub has extra wind or vomits etc then try another…
I don’t think there is any one ‘better’ formula…just whatever works for you and your bub.
personally, I like Karicare. I didn’t need it for long but it did the job :-)

  • We use heinz have for both boys and no problems is cheaper than all the others aswell . Midwife and drs said stay away from SMA its full of fat !! And anything with gold in the name can sometimes cause constipation. Hope this helps

  • do your research and try it for yourself. baby may also need to try a few different formulas until he/she settles onto one. some may also really constipate your baby

  • i would go for bellamys because it’s australian and australian cows which i prefer after seeing docos about it

  • Try the sachets first that way you’re not spending so much buying the tin incase they don’t like it. Many have different things but I’m sure they are pretty j ch the same

  • unless your child has any reactions it doesn’t really matter which one you choose however GP and midwives advised it is best to find one formula and stick to it (unless as above you do have issues with using it).

  • Who knows! I’m sure they are all great for bub. They have to be. What’s important though is that it doesn’t upset bubs tummy and I guess that varies. I was lucky that NAN HA Gold worked well for my bub. No constipation or tummy upsets. It was recommended by a gf who’s bub also uses it. It’s normal for bubs poop to turn green due to the high iron content so don’t be concerned there.

  • You need to look at all the forumals and work out what extra vitamins and minerals my want your baby to have.i have used Aptamil Gold from a few weeks as a comp fed to the toddler formula. I never had to switch and it gave my daughter everything she needed. It is pricier than others.

  • I personally like kari-care, but each bub is different, you might go though a few, before you find the right one for your bubs

  • I’ve used s26 as that’s what they gave us in the hospital so I thought it was best to continue the same and we have had no problems but unfortunately with some it can be a bit of trial and error.

  • I found s26 to be good with my twins they are now 6 months and we never had any issues.

  • I personally comp feed my daughter and we used Aptamil Gold, i tried a few others and she wouldn’t drink it. It depends on what you are looking for.

  • Don’t feel guilty, if you can’t breast feed then your daughter will still thrive. Different formulas can suit different children, so you may need to experiment. When we switched to formula we used Heinz Nurture, mostly because we found it dissolved well.

  • yes there are differences. just like bf and bottle. but i didn’t used much formulas, just wanted to wish u good luck. do whats good

  • i recon as long as baby’s health and happy. it doesn’t matter BF or Formula

  • I never bf any of mine (2 boys 11 & 16) and I have found there to not being much difference apart from cost it can some times being to strong for their little bellies so its just trail and era with mine. When it comes down to it. Only you know whats right for your kids

  • Nan ha gold is the closes to breast milk. I had issues with my son and the only formula he could take without being sick was karicare aptamil gold delact.

  • First congrats on trying, breastfeeding is wonderful when its working and when its not you dread bub waking (personal experience)… i had to feed mine on soy milk so sorry i’m not much help.

  • I ended up on Nan I think. I went through the same thing as you with bf and was trying to express and formula feed, which was all too draining. I tried him on S26 as he had had that in the hospital, but he was getting far too constipated and the switch really helped that problem. Unfortunately I think with bubs and formulas it’s just trial and error. I’m sure they would have to comply to nutritional standards.
