Hello!

For almost 6 months now my daughter has been getting up with in 1/2 of my hubby coming to bed, whether its 10pm or 2am its almost always after he comes to bed ( sometimes before ) I put her back in her room but its with a fight. i end up with no sleep.

now its been so long ive had enough i have resorted to having a matress beside her bed. when i discover her in my bed ( some nights i don’t wake up to it. ) i walk her to her room put her in her bed and sleep on the matress. this works for a while but its not long before she is trying to hop on the mattress with me. i put her back in her bed and once again its not long before she is at it again. she doesn’t put up a fuss with this, i don’t know whether she waits for me to fall asleep or whether she falls asleep for a while before waking. this has gone on for 2 long, i think she has slept a total of 2 nights the whole night through in her room

  • Oh my, no sleep for you must be hard. All I can suggest is what we did with our daughter, we ended up putting a towel over the top of the door and pulling it tight, so she couldn’t open the door. We have an intercom so can hear her when she wakes up. Means she is restricted to staying in her room. Still came in to comfort her.
She now has toys that “watch” over her at night…. Now if she wakes up she no longer gets out of bed, she waits for me to come to her, no longer have to use the towel over her door, so no more her climbing into bed with us.

  • Music worked for us.

  • Is she scared to sleep alone, I’m assuming you’ve already asked her? What about doing a cheap mini makeover on her room, things she would like in there to make her room feel special to her, perhaps you have already done that?

  • close her door and tell her you will open it in the morning when she has had a good sleep

  • Cry to out method maybe a idea, and if she keeps coming in just keep taking her back to her bed, I’ve tried this with our youngest but didn’t work he’s to stubborn, does she have a fav toy ? Maybe get her a new doona cover or blanket for her bed that she loves, this worked for a while with my son

  • Its tricky, if its any consolation, most kids like to sleep near their parents and they do grow out of it! be kind but firm

  • try music or a light or maybe a fav teddy in bed with her

  • there are some good comments here

  • try having some music in her room, night light, sing her to sleep, read a story. Good luck.

  • Hubby does try, but he runs a business and is very busy. If he is awake when she gets up he takes care of it. But the moment all the lights are off she’s in our room. She does say she’s scared. We can’t have the fan up too high otherwise it makes her lanterns rustle. We have a rainbow light she likes. And we have tried a teddy. When it comes down to it, I think it’s me she is after.

  • Super Nanny is awesome for this. Find out why she doesn’t like it in her room. Is she scared? Does she need a light on? Can she get a special toy that will keep her safe. Is there a pet that can sleep with her? Maybe get her a lapdog to snuggle cat. Good luck

  • I would let hubby take over once in awhile.

  • Get hubby to take over, I have been there and only after my hubby said enough is enough he now does bedtime.
When our little boy went to bed and got up, he took him to bed and continued to do so until he worked out mummy wasn’t coming. Worth a try. Also a reward chart for staying in bed and a night light might work too.

  • I know people who had success with Groupclocks – might be worth a try?

  • Hard question I have a 4 year old doin the same id too be interested to see what other people suggest to do.
