Hello!

Should I get up each time & turn my baby back over? My son has learnt to roll over and he has decided he will practice this at night (not during the day when I try with him). He can hold his head up and bends his legs back too (looks like a seal!) and just lies there on his tummy until he gets frustrated. Then he starts to whinge and I have been getting up and turning him. Should I keep doing this or at what point do I leave him to try and work out how to roll back? Would love some tips on this.

  • I didn’t with #2 but both my children were belly sleepers. It’s what you feel comfortable with.

  • How old is he?

  • I would get the side bumper like padding. Just to be safe :)

  • During the day I would say leave him to try but at night when you want sleep it is a lot easier to turn him back. It wont be long before he manages on his own.

  • I think letting him try would be a good idea, and if after a while he still hasn’t and he is getting annoyed then try just rocking him gently from side to side to see if he will do it himself. if not turn him over, but he will eventually get it himself. all in good time, soon he will be running so enjoy this stage.

  • Paed’s say that amid they can roll both ways leave them be. We invested in a baby monitor that has video for extra peace of mind

  • there are some good comments here

  • he should be ok if he can turn back around

  • I actually did. But just as much as I can

  • Thank u for sharing this

  • More tummy time on the floor will have him rolling in both directions in no time.

  • what did you decide to do?

  • It is a phase that shouldn’t last long (thankfully)

  • What did you decide to do?

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I have heard that when babies are strong enough to roll, there is less chance of smothering themselves as they can move off there face. Maybe give him more tummy time so he stops getting upset every time and becomes an expert at rolling.

  • How is he going now?

  • you can get these bumper things that go either side of your baby so they don’t roll, I can remember the name sorry, but they have a little lamb on them. not cot bumper its where they lie inbetween.

  • My DS has been sleeping on his tummy since 5wks, i would be leaving him until he gets really upset! goodluck!

  • as long as his hands arent wrapped i would leave him. my kids all slept on their tummies.
