Hello!

I have 2 little girls, 21months old and 3 months old, so there is 18 months between them. We always wanted 3 kids. I am torn as I always wanted to have them close so they are all off to school and I can go back to working part time and then we will purchase our 1st home. But now part of me is thinking maybe I should wait a little longer. My question is those with 3 or more…. is it hard to transition from 2 to 3 and what age gap do you think is best? Thanks in advance.

  • I found it easier to go from 2 to 3 than from 1 to 2. You’ve already worked out some of those things like getting multiple kids in and out of the car safely. I personally would think 18 months to 2 years is a good gap.

  • I really depends on whether you believe you can handle a close age difference. All the best.

  • I think 2 year gap is good

  • I don’t think it makes much difference.

  • I would say 3 to 4 years minimum. I believe it would be a little easier to have older kids to help you out with the newborn.

  • I would wait and establish myself financially first, raising a third child is the straw that generally breaks the camels back, it is so much easier with your own home and then you are not at the mercy of landlords and moving frequently which costs money, the kids are more settled, I had 3 children in 20 mnths due to twins, ended up single and working full time and bought my own home, so I know how important stability is, and your priority is to your existing children, the other factor you need to look at is your age, if you are relatively young then another child in 5 years or so would be a wonderful addition to the family and a lot less stressful as the older children would help and dote on a new bub, but essentially it is your decision, write a pros and cons list and go from there.

  • I think the best age gap is 2 or 3 years

  • 1 0t 2 years i would think but it does not really matter

  • I have 3 children who are 4-5 years apart. They are in 3 different lifestyle stages. This is good in one way as each child is going through the different stages and have different needs however I can see why some have kids close together – if they are all toddlers together you can overcome this stage and you get them all off to school around the same time.

  • Thankyou, i think we will just go crazy and do it lol We can’t imagine our life without 3 little munchkins to guide and teach.

  • I recently asked a similar question and I realized theres no right or wrong answers if your heart says its time, its time :)

  • I can’t help much my 3 are 15, 6 and 3 but I’d say 2-3 year gap would be great given the ages of your two now.
