My sister just made a trip to China with her kids and they LOVED it all. I didn’t travel to China with my kids , but traveled alone and actually met my husband there. I think it’s a lovely country, rich in culture and history. In most of the bigger places and hotels they speak English, but the deeper you go country inwards in the smaller places, they won’t speak English and language barrier is an issue.

Sounds like an amazing experience. Good luck with it all. The thing I would check on was if the accommodation has toileting that we are used to and not pit ones which would be more difficult with little kids.

Also; I find by joining facebook groups or other social network groups for families that travel is always helpful. There may be some tips and advice from other people in a similar travelling situation that are travelling to China.

Pretty sure you’ll find lots of family friendly activities to do. Why won’t you all be in the same hotel?

I would suggest sitting with a travel agent to find out the best options. I always set aside a good amount of time with a travel agent to sit and plan and find appropriate travel. They should be able to find you age appropriate activities in China. Such fun planning a trip to China – good luck!
