  • I think everyone had built it up so much that when I got there I was quite disappointed.

  • Love the cradle mountain took a bus up and spotted a wombat :)

  • Most people rave about it, but I wasn’t that impressed tbh.

  • Interesting to read the different points of view.

  • It is absolutely stunning. I visited during the winter months and it has an extra special beauty about it at this time if year. You’ll love it

  • It’s very unpredictable temperatures so you have to be prepared for all seasons when you go. We went in Spring and there was a dusting of snow when we arrived! The weather changes quickly too so best to check with the park rangers about whether it is safe to trek up to the top or not.

  • Cold and damp but very beautiful place. Walks abound. Wear good warm clothes and proper shoes. Have fun.

  • yes it would be pretty cold there! check the temps online :)

  • My visit was years ago – I remember it being very cold, and I remember there weren’t many people around – so make sure others know where you are and when you’ll be back if you’re bushwalking.

  • Thanks for the tip June11 about it being cold at night. I do like to cover every possibility.

  • The scenery is something to behold. The accomodation is “out of this world” and the food at the restruant we had luch at was reasonably priced and fantastic quality. Since were there they have built a lot more accomodation etc. some of it eco-friendly. It is very….cold at night.

  • I did it about 12 years ago very beautiful.
best advice to do the walk around dove lake arrive early in the morning it takes about 2 hours to do depending on your pace.
my tour arrived about 7.30 am as we were finishing our walk all the other tour buses were arriving so we missed the crowds.
I was lucky to be there on a rare day there was no clouds over the mountain so I saw the top.
another tip I went in January silly me thought this is Australia and it’s summer I only packed shorts and t shirts big mistake it was freezing I needed to buy a jacket so make sure you pack warm clothes

  • yep and it was amazing – go to the east coast of Tassie too, and do a hike around Maria Island – breathtaking!

  • My husband and I were told by several people that Cradle Mountain would be the highlight of our honeymoon in Tasmania, so we booked to stay there for two days. We were not impressed and would have been happy to leave after a couple of hours. We spent most of our two days in nearby towns. We absolutely loved Port Arthur and Hobart and wished we’s spent more time in those places. I guess you won’t know whether you’ll like it until you get there.

  • Thanks for the terrific and helpful answers mums. I really do appreciate all of the responses – sounds wonderful. Congrats to Mummytoabeautiful princess on your proposal – lovely!

  • Yes! It’s beautiful. For us, it snowed in January.

  • We went there last August. It was beautiful. Lots of snow and plenty of activities to do including seeing wombats, Tassie Devils and lots of walks. Would love to visit in summer to participate in some water activities.

  • well i know that a lot of people reckon that it is cool to visit! google it and get people’s insider tips (local tips also)

  • Cradle Mountain is absolutely gorgeous! My husband proposed to me there in 2008 :)
We were there in winter but i’m sure it’s just as gorgeous in summer! You’ll have a fabulous time!
