Hello!

I put on 40kgs after my 4th child when I had never been over 60kgs in my life. And now I can’t lose it. My eating habits or exercise habits didn’t change from what they previously were. I have cut down on meal sizes and been doing extra exercise to no avail. Any suggestions or tips would be great.

  • I would seek some professional medical advice, there could be an underlying issue. Unfortunately for many mums regardless of the number of children they have, have issues in losing weight gained during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Personally I blame hormone changes.

  • This must be hard I can imagine. I would seek advice by the GP, have your bloods checked, maybe get a referral to a dietician. Alternatively you could seek advice from a Naturopath or a weight loss coach

  • I guess perseverance is key but it can be so disheartening when you don’t lose anything after a lot of effort.

  • Everyone gains weight during pregnancy, a lot don’t lose it again, and most say they never get their pre baby body back. Weight is quick to gain and slow to lose

  • How has your weight loss gone since this post? Mine is at a standstill :)

  • I too have slowly put on weight since having my child and it is extremely hard to lose again. Keep trying I guess.

  • I have just put on like 5kg after finishing breastfeeding.. its such a disappointing thing :(

  • If you are eating the right foods and exercising with recommended portion sizes I would be going to see a dr!! This sounds. A little abnormal. Goodluck

  • I’m struggling to lose about 10kg. It sounds like an excuse, but I really think my hormones are making it difficult for me to lose the weight.

  • Maybe visit GP and get thyroid checked. Pregnancy does weird things to our bodies and that would be the first thing I would check.
    Good luck.

  • The weight gain crept up on me over subsequent pregnancies. I’ve lost most of it, but another 10kg would thrill me

  • With my first, I was wearing my size 12 jeans 3 weeks after giving birth. Don’t ask me how because I put on a bit of pregnancy weight. With my next, I put on weight and it didn’t come off…..ever! Are you breast feeding? This is meant to be good for getting rid of unwanted pregnancy kilos

  • It is difficult to spend the time on yourself when you have children to look after, I have tried every diet under the sun, but if sensible calorie counting, fat and carb watching with sensible exercise is not working, then you could pull out the big guns, I have lost a lot of weight with optifast, it is only available from a chemist, it is a meal replacement program, but you must eat several cups of vegetables a day, it was prescription only until recent years and in the usa it still is, it is not like a lot of the other programs that are sold thru health shops, supermarkets, pyramid schemes, speak to your doctor, many of them recommend this program, and they will monitor you with it, many doctors make you do this program prior to bariatric surgery for gastic banding etc, I know it works for me and there are lots of success stories on facebook with it and on different blogs, and it is a pharmaceutical product. best of luck, It is also very fast so it gives you the incentive to keep on the program,

  • yeah just get moving more…i was in the same boat! i walk for 80 mins a day doing the school run and then i work out on the exercise bike for an hour and ride 20km. i have built up to this though. i also have resistance bands for upper body strength. don’t stress and just do little by little

  • How frustrating. Age plays a factor as well.

The technical answer is keep doing what you are doing. If you are in a health fund they will subsidise things like Weight watchers and personal trainers.

    Best of luck.

  • breast feeding! drink water.
I like the virtual gastric band app

  • After 6 kids I had also put on weight that I could never shift no matter what I did. But 3 months ago I heard about the Lose Baby Weight program through http://www.healthymummy.com.au and I have lost 10 kg. The food on the program is delicious and easy to cook and the exercise is done when my 6 month old is taking a nap. I have almost reached my goal weight but will still continue with a maintenance program because I am so enjoying doing something for me….first time in 14 years. Take a look at all the success stories on the website.

  • you could chat to your doctor to make sure that there is nothing in the way of loosing weight as you said you have cut down portion size and exercise more. because with that recipe you should be loosing weight.

  • Following – Goodluck :)

  • I’m fighting a similar battle after number 3 and will be following this. It’s certainly not easy.
