I heard there’s a new product on the market, which sounds rather good. It’s the Licetec V-Comb A1; this Licetec V-Comb with its battery-powered suction, combined with the ease of combing, is easy-to-use and an effective way to help eliminate head lice and eggs without allergens or chemicals.

And there are salon’s who for lice treatment but it’s quite dear.
Once when I couldn’t get rid of them and treated my kids daily for many weeks (taking hours daily to do so) in desperation I bought dog lice treatment ( a couple of drops of oil) and put that in the hair of my kids. It worked very well ! Got the tip from one of my friends

I have fortunately never had to deal with headlice, but there’s some great advice here.

Lots of head lice experience here
* Go trough the hair daily to pick visible lice away
* Royally cover the head with conditioner daily, leave it sitting for a while and the go through it with a fine nit comb whilst dividing the hair in small groups; start at the bottom whilst tying / pinning the rest of the hair up….can take over a hour per child
* don’t skip a day
* make up a prevention spray of vinegar and eucalyptus / tea tree oil and water; spray daily
* lice like clean hair they freely can move around in ! so don’t wash the hair to frequently, tie it up, cut it nice and short, put hair gel and or hairspray in it every day

I’d be having a massive go at your kinder/school!! They should be putting up notices & sending a notice home!!

I have not had to tackle this one get but I have heard that tea tree oil is the best way to get rid of them! Google and it will give the ratio of tea tree oil to water. Every morning spray little mans hair with it to prevent catching them again.

I remember as kids getting a treatment from the chemist. The whole house use to have to do it regardless of who actually had it and changing the bedsheets!

Nit Wits.
It works almost straight away, it does not stink & it does not sting.
We buy it from Woolworths for around $20 in the spray form.
I strongly recommend it!

They are getting worse apparently and harder to get rid of, super lice! Yuck

We use mayonnaise. Leave on for twenty minutes then wash out. Before going to school add hair gel or hair spray. They dont like it

Agree with others on the conditioner and nit comb method. It sounds very slack on your kindies side!

Having his hair very short will help, best to get a nit comb (from the chemist) and comb through with conditioner. You can either leave conditioner on his hair or use gel or even hairspray (apparently they hate). Maybe even doing your own letter stating there is headlice and give to every parent so they are aware.

Mum mum always used conditioner on dry hair and then combing it through with a nit comb on us and that would well.

The one thing we found that works (but is oh so annoying) is lather the hair in conditioner and leave in for half an hour. Then get a good quality nit comb and comb the hair. We did this each day till they were gone. This may not be helpful if the kindy is not willing to help eradicate the issue. If it is constant and not going anywhere…maybe time to investigate some new kindy’s? Good luck!

Definitely short hair. It makes it easier to see them, and comb them out.

It is unusual that your Hubby got them too… Adult men are lest likely to get them, I think due to Hormones. These must be super lice. Follow the instructions on the treatments; don’t be tempted to use it earlier than stated as the Lice will not be in the right stage of development.
Everyday put a large handful of hair conditioner on Dry hair and comb through with a Long toothed lice comb; use a bowl of boiling water to rinse the comb and kill the lice between each stroke.
To prevent ,make up a spray of Tea tree oil… or if you can get it Neem oil. Rinse his hat and clothes in these also. Put some on you finger tips and rub it behind his ears.

You can drown the live head-lice in the cheapest hair conditioner. Put a lot on your hair and wait rinse off and comb through collecting any eggs. I would cut your son’s hair really short and pop on a beanie that has been sprayed with Tea-tree oil. make a solution of tea-tree oil and water and lightly spray your son as he leaves for kindy. I would keep him home until you have sorted out this problem. I would consider changing kindy’s as well. Best of luck.

As awful as it is, get his hair cut as short as possible. My daughter with long, thick, black hair had them on and off for over 12 months – not kidding! What a nightmare. We tried everything and it was just persistence and patience with endless combing that worked.

Yes they are pesky buggers. You just have to be on it as it can be hard to prevent it if he has hair.

That is shoking that the kindy wont inform other that there is something been passed around the class. Our puts a sign up stating that there is head lice, hand foot and mouth etc in the class. It does not metion names of who has it etc and asks every parent o look for and treat the issue if needed.
When my son had hair lice i treated him weekly, along with washing his bedding, night clothes, and any blackets , dressing gowns, hats etc he many of came into contact with each time. I did this for three weeks. After the first treatment I also took my son in for a hair cut. The hair is so much easier to treat the next time when short.
