  • Most kinds of berries as well as dried fruit can be added to muffins. Just ensure they are small enough pieces to avoid any choking hazard.

  • Muffins are such an easy tastey food to hide fruit and veggies in for kids. I’m making corn, bacon and cheese ones for lunchboxes next week

  • Just use some 1 cup wholemeal flour, 1 cup rolled oats, 125mls oil, an egg and mashed banana or honey for sweetness. Then add whichever fruits you like, chopped, dried, mashed, pureed etc. If the mixture becomes too wet after adding the fruit, just add a bit more flour. Bake at 175c until they are browned on top and feel cooked :)

  • I think I remember reading somewhere that you could use a plain cake mix and an entire tin of fruit (juice included) no other ingredients, to make muffins?

  • I make sure the fruit and vegetables are the right texture and consistency to add to cake mixes.

  • I guess just work with the flavours you know your toddler likes, that way you know they will at least try it! I find the White Wings range to be the yummiest out of store packet mixes.

  • Best to make your own baked goods. More tine consuming but they’ll save you money in the long run and the food is so much healthier

  • I don’t like store bought cake mixes, I think they’re not such good option when you want to make them healthy either

  • I always add extra fruit and vegetable to sweet and savoury muffins; it is fun to experiment with ingredients and food.

  • I’m not sure about store bought cake mixes. It’s not hard to make some from scratch. There are so many easy recipes online.

  • There are lots of easy recipes online – just google.

  • Try fresh berries cut into small pieces. Frozen will add too much liquid to the mix and you might end up with soggy muffins. I like to add some diced apple or pear, small enough and you don’t even know it’s there.

  • I’d try different types of berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. My kids love banana muffins, so would try banana too! Apples, pears, pineapple! What a great idea!

  • Oh this is a good one, i would start with bluberries and bananas and maybe raspberries or even apples and try puree them before you add them to the cake mixes so that you can’t see big chunks. That might help keep them light and fluffy. Good luck Mumma.

  • Experimenting is fun. I’d just give it a go by starting with small quantities. I’m sure there are plenty of recipes out there from scratch that would be even healthier.
