Hello!

I am having guests over this Saturday for a BBQ but have been asked to work that day, so won’t have much time to prepare. Does anyone have any fast salad or side dish ideas for a BBQ. My hubby is taking care of the meats.
Thank you.

  • Most salads are quick and easy to prepare. I quite enjoy the Asian noodle salad. The recipe is on those packets of crispy noodles, which you need for the recipe. Don’t add the dressing til right before serving or it will all go soggy

  • I thought all salads were quick! I make a yummy, healthy brown rice one, with soy/honey/garlic dressing, spring onions, capsicum, and whatever veges you like.

  • What did you choose? I hope it all worked out for you.

  • Wow some of these sound amazing, and great for our Friday night BBQ’s, thanks everyone!

  • This is a light and tasty Tuscan-style salad that works well with steak or other barbecued red meat. Combine 2 cups of chopped tomato, 1 tbsp each of chopped rosemary and parsley, 2 tbsps Balsamic vinegar, 2 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp oil, and a can of Cannellini beans (drained) in a large bowl, stirring well. Sprinkle 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper over bean mixture; stir to combine.

  • Coleslaw. Buy coleslaw packs. Mix into a bowl. Grate in fresh carrots and bit cheese to boost. Whole egg mayonnaise makes it!
Slice platter of cucumber, carrots, cheese, olives, capsicum. On two big platters. Simple sliced foods. Takes ten minutes. It’s more about fresh, raw food looking well presented. Especially with some nice marinated olives , sundries tomato on it.

  • I make a quick potato salad.1.firstly peel and cut potatoes into bite size cubes and boil till potato is just cooked .2.boil some eggs approx 6 eggs to 1 to 1.5 kilos of potatoes. When the eggs are cool and the potato is cool slice the eggs into thin slices. 3.mix praise mayonnaise into egg and potato.Use enough mayo to coat other ingredients. Chill and serve

  • Potato salad. Boil the potatoes the night before. I always add cream and garlic… Whole egg mayo… Spring onion.. Boiled eggs and heaps of pepper .its a family favorite

  • A coleslaw salad can be made the day ahead & actually improves with flavour the day after.

  • My hubby’s grandparents always did a salad called festive salad. It involved of all things white marshmallows cut in half, a tin of segmented mandarin slices, sour cream and coconut! Sounds awful but actually is one of the tastiest salads to have with BBQ meat and seafood!

  • I love my toss salad
All you need is a bag of mixed lettuce leaves
    Cucumber (sliced)
    Cherry tomatoes
    Green capsicum (diced)
    Celery and carrots sliced
    Throw in a bowl
A bit of slad dressing of your choice
    And your a winner
Can even have it on a platter with boiled eggs cut in half and chicken broken up in to peices

  • Chicken wings also make a good side dish and can be made the day before the bbq and they are always a crowd pleaser.

  • Cut some tomatoes, capsicums (of different colors), cucumber, olives, feta cheese… Mix everything together, if you want you could add some corn and lettuce. Season with salt and olive oil.

  • The quickest salad ever is Pre-packed lettuce leaves and other variety. Feta, baby tomaotes, black or green or both olives, block cheese. All tossed into a big glass bowl with dressings on the side. I always boil 1 dozen eggs and half them on a plate they disappear fast. Rice salad is quick and easy. Boiled rice, chopped three colours of capsicum and red onion and a dash of French Salad Dressing. Mango Salad is just some lovely loose leaf like baby spinach, rocket and baby cos with slices of Mango with a mango dressing. Great with Chicken.

  • Boil some pasta, once cooked and drained add in – ham, diced capsicum, corn kernels, spring onions, red onion, cheese, Mayo and sweet chilli sauce.
Mix together and serve, it’s yummy warm or cold.

  • My stand by salad is always a potato salad. The potatoes can be cooked the night before and the salad can be quickly put together the next day. I like to add other ingredients to my potato salad to give it more bulk and substance; eggs and ham. Rice salads and pasta salads can be made in a similar way. Get all of the ingredients ready and them put them together at the last minute. Enjoy your bbq! :)

  • A pasta salad is really quick and easy. Just cook the pasta the night before and leave it in the water and place in the fridge over night. Dice a read onion and capsicum. Then about 10 mins before people are due to arive drain the past put it, the onion and capsicum in a bowl and as thousand island dressing. Mix it all up and you have pasta salad. I always make it for when I have to take a salad to a bbq.
