Hello!

I need to wear glasses all day everyday otherwise I can’t see properly, so I can’t really take them off for long. My 1 year old thinks they’re fun to take and throw around, but they’re my only pair so I can’t afford for them to get broken. I’ve tried saying no repeatedly, but he keeps doing it.

  • When your baby/toddler tries to touch your glasses, say no with a sad face and move your head back so your toddler cannot reach the glasses. Keep doing it, and after 10 to 20 times, they will usually understand. Some kids will require many more rounds, and other kids will need to be put down if they still do not listen. Besides this I would try to distract your child

  • Give them their own “pretend” pair to play with (eg plastic ones with no lenses that are safe for him); you can also wear them and let him take THEM on and off until he gets bored… then leave them with him… if he goes for your real glasses again just give him the play pair…and keep playing/confusing him with the pair he is allowed to keep until it becomes boring for him to go for your real ones… maybe! Good luck… something like this worked with an older child for me.

  • Keep saying No and walk away from him if he keeps trying . He seems like the curious type and may take something next when he is bored .

  • My daughter done the same when I got glasses wen she was one and she would always take them off, key thing is don’t fight with him, let him take them off as damage will occur when you try to stop him.(glasses are no longer made of glass so it only the frames that will bend and mis-shapen your optometrist can fix free of charge at any time) I continued with the no don’t touch they are mummy’s, she is nearly 16 months now and I don’t have a issue unless she is tired or sick. Constistance and ensuring its not a game, the novelty will wear off

  • I wish I knew. My poor husband has had so many pairs destroyed. I think eventually they just will grow out of it. I’m hoping anyway

  • My son used to do this to my husband. We’d try to distract him and give him something different to hold. He soon grew out of it.

  • I wish I knew! My daughter is always grabbing them!

  • get that cord for sure. try to distract him with other objects and be firm with the no when he does it. he will get over it soon enough lol

  • Can you hang them around your head/neck with a special cord you can get from an optician’s shop? I know OPSM have them. Can you manage to “catch” his hands at the same time as you say “no” and push them down away from your face? I know kids move so quickly. Maybe sit him on the floor or away from easy reach from you when he does it. I don’t really know what else to suggest.
