Hello!

My 15 year old daughter has tonsillitis and gets it badly about twice a year. I was just wondering if removing tonsils is something they do now – especially at this age? She also suffers from blocked sinuses regularly. Hubby took her to the doctor last night otherwise I would have asked.

  • My youngest had them removed at age 6. I would certainly ask to be referred to ENT

  • SORRY I MEANT 15 years old, not 5. the doctor still did it and she was fine.

  • My brother and I had out tonsils out as a young child ( and I don’t know if that was good ) as I was told by a doctor removing them causes more germs and infections to set in . It maybe the reason why I cough a lot too . So I would discuss if it is really neccessry and if there are any natural remedys that might solve the current problem .

  • yeah my sister got them out at around 5 so it will be fine. they do say that it is later but they will do it

  • It used to be very common when I was growing up 5 out of 6 kids in my own family had them removed
these days they don’t like to jump into it as there is always a risk with surgery although my two of my three children have had them removed because of sleep apnoea problems. When they were around two years of age my other son although he has tonsil problems all the time they are reluctant to have them removed he is now 17
