We have continuous conversations about this with my 10yr old who’s personal hygiene is overall rather bad. In regards to not flushing the toilet we talk a lot about the effect this has on other members of the family; being faced with someone else poo or pee is not pleasant and drips of pee on the toilet isn’t either. So 1. it’s not hygienic 2. it’s anti-social. It’s a matter of repeating the same message frequently. At times she’s the one who has to clean the toilet.

Out right explain to them they aren’t children anymore and they need to start getting ready to become adults. Go the gross method and show them the bacteria that comes from Unflushed toilets (google some images)

I hate that too and I have a husband who cant’t flush the toilet properly no matter how many times I lecture him . I think it’s because they rush and don’t notice like women do . Maybe if he is still in the house , make him go and re-flush or look at the toilet to see how unclean it is . I have no answers myself 🙁

ask them if they do it in public or at a friend’s place, if no, then don’t do it at home. maybe get them to start cleaning the toilet, it might help them realise someone has to do it but at the same time it might make them realise that if they want a clean toilet to sit on or pee then flush the toilet for the next person in hope they will return do the same thing.

Teens are teens,they just need to be told what do correctly! Good Luck!

Explain it to them and make it their job to clean the toilet they will soon start flushing

I agree with the telling them why its important and the fact that they can’t continue on like that at workplaces or school because its not acceptable. Bit of an awkward situation but its important to drum it into them.

I think teens like to create drama (despite not like being bossed around). I think you could either choose to ignore it or like mentioned below, sit them down and explain why it needs to be done.

I would sit them down and explain to them what can happen if they aren’t hygienic in terms of infections and how uncomfortable they can be. Also teach them ways of washing correctly!
