My daughter had extremely bad croup, it’s from a general cold ect and it’s contagious also so maybe he’s so ran down his body isn’t actually getting rid off it completely, unfortunately I can’t give tips on how to cope as we were in hospital it was that server.
If you suspect croup with a lot of coughing that is so bad it sounds like whooping cough take your child to a GP or Emergency Dept. There is treatment they can give that you can follow at home or if it is too severe your child may be admitted to hospital. My 2nd cousin had croup as a baby. They put a form of “vicks” in the steam tent and discovered he was allergic to it. He also developed Pneumonia which they said may been caused by him being in the moisture of the steam tent for too long. One thing that can cause it is letting them run around in cold wet socks. Another thing that can trigger it for some is close proximity to tobacco smoke.
Try hot, steamy showers and make sure his room is warm, 23 degrees. I used Vicks on the bottom of feet, then put socks on and a bit on chest and back. I found vaporiser did nothing except make the room damp. Make sure if the strider sound is made when breathing out, you call a doctor or health direct.
What started as croup for my son ended up being asthma and treated with steroids (Redi pred) and ventolin. Please see a gp if you haven’t already.
I have no advice but we went through this when bub was 1,it was horrible.we were up and down from the emergency department that much.the steroids seemed to help
