Hello!

“I have a 5 month old who is still waking twice through the night. Is there any suggestions as to how to help him sleep through. He is my 3rd baby, but my other 2 slept through from 3 months. Thanks” How do you get a 5 month old to sleep through?

  • My 9 month old grandson still wakes through the night. I think the issue with him is self settling. He wakes and has the dummy put back in his mouth and he’s asleep again. If the dummy isn’t replaced asap, he fully wakes and cries and takes a while to be settled again.

  • As you know they’re all different. I found the for my 2 I fed them solids earlier than “I was supposed to” – they were both just really hungry so once I introduced them to a little bit of Farex they both slept through.

  • I found settling them with a full tummy helped to have them sleep through the night.

  • I think the real question is how do I get my baby to resettle himself back to sleep, all babies wake during the night the difference is how they resolve this, either by screaming for comfort or self settling

  • Hope some of the advice given was able to help you

  • Some just do wake up, mine did for longer than 5 months.

  • Did you find out a way?

  • Let me know when you find out lol

  • All babies are different I don’t think there is anyway you can make them sleep through.

  • These things can take time, not every baby will sleep through the night at a certain age. The best you can do is make sure hes comfortable, fed and warm, create a peaceful sleep environment, and hope for the best.

  • I was a sucker and got up to every sound. Sometimes u need to let them sook a little

  • Baby’s never sleep through at that age so try not to stress too much :P

  • Some babies just don’t sleep as well as others. Could it have something to do with noise from your other kids while sleeping?

  • Try to make sure there is no physical reason (hunger/exhaustion/pain) and have a super regular routine.

  • My 3 months old bubba sleeps for 4 hours at night then wakes up every hour…killing me softly…lol

  • do 3 hourly feeds during the day of milk and perhaps start to introduce baby foods. Night time wakes usualy are when they are hungry :)

  • every baby is different, theyll get to sleep in their own time

  • My 8 month old is still waking several times a night, so I know how you feel!

I have just started reading “The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep” by Dr Harvey Karp and cannot recommend it enough. He has some very simple and gentle techniques for getting babies, toddlers and children to sleep (and stay asleep). His methods are very gentle – no controlled crying or cry it out :-)

  • You don’t, they are all different. My first was a sleepy baby and slept through from day 1. I actually had to wake her and try to make her feed. My second didn’t sleep through til she was almost 1 and my 18 month old usually still wakes once. Sometimes there is a good reason, sometimes there isn’t. Try a more substantial feed before bed. Rice cereal on top of a feed. Often breasted babies find formula more filling. Try a few things, if it doesn’t work then you just have to live through it.
