Hello!

I have heard that using a microwave makes it uneven in temperature so how do you heat up formula? Especially the night feeds? Do you put it in hot water or put half cooled boiled water (from the fridge) with recently hot boiled water?? Suggestions please and thanks!

  • i know its a huge no no, but i always used to use the microwave. bottle warmers always took forever to warm a bottle and who has time to boil a bottle on the stove till its hot enough.

  • We have a bottle warmer that starts
Stays on all night. It’s not big on electricity so we don’t mind.
That way we just reach over and pop some formula into it.

  • I’d put it in hot boiling water.

  • Putting in the microwave it definitely won’t heat evenly. You need to shake it get the temperature even. My Grandma stood the bottle in a jug (with a narrow base) of very hot water to heat through evenly.

  • I used to put it in hot boiling water which doesn’t take long to warm , then fortunate later my sister in law gave me an electrical milk warmer she used for her kids and that helped heat up a bit quicker . I wouldn’t recommend microwave as it may heat up too hot .

  • For me, I microwave. When my baby is hungry, he screams the house down, and I can’t risk waking up the toddler. So I just have bottles made up in the fridge and microwave it. If you give it a bit of a mix around, it will get rid of any hot spots.

  • Great tips especially about the actual ratios thanks!!

  • When at home I add boiling water to cooled boiled water, mix to the right temp then add the formula. When out and about I microwave boiled water, give it a mix, check temp then add the formula :)

  • We put in the cold water on the formula first then hot water from the kettle. To make our bottles I think the ratio was 160 ml cold water and 30 ml hot water
