Hello!

Does anyone have good ideas to remove splinters of cactus? They’re so fine I can’t get them out

  • First, sterilize the tip of the tweezers using rubbing alcohol. Then, pull out the splinter in the same direction that it entered the skin. Never squeeze out a splinter, as this may cause it to break into smaller pieces that are harder to remove. Use a small needle to remove the splinter.

  • Have you tried a splinter probe? I think you can get them from chemists

  • I never heard of drawing out cream either !
I usually just use a tweezers and a sharp desinfected needle

  • I’ve never heard of drawing out cream – I’ve learnt something new today.

  • My mum used to use a needle to pick out the splinter whenever I had them, but it scared the daylights out of me.

  • I would try using tweezers.

  • My mum used to use a fine threading needle to slowly pick it out while pinching the splinter . You need to be careful and patient so you don’t jab yourself as it is done bit by bit . It is not as bad as it sounds .

  • in the bath… sit in a warm bath and let the skin around them go really soft before getting them out with tweezers… failing this i would go to a doctor.

  • Cheers for tips

  • Great remedies ,cheers .I didn’t know about drawing out cream .

  • yes buy drawing cream from the chemist

  • You can get tweezers that have a light on them, very handy for fine splinters!
I wish you the best of luck, splinters can be very frustrating!

  • You could try magnoplasm splinter drawing cream available from a pharmacy.

  • You can get some gel from the chemist which you put on the splinter and cover with a band aid and it draws it out.

  • Also; make sure you use fine tweezers – these can usually be purchased from the chemist.

  • Tweezers always work and if not a splinter will make its way out(eventually!)

  • I haven’t tried it yet but I read you can make a paste of baking soda & water & place it over the splinter & cover with bandage for a few minutes & it should just pop out.

  • It has happened to me,have iced area to numb it a bit and with tweezers and patience (sometimes help if others around) gently pick back skin around area of splinter entry to get better access of protruding end, then use tweezers gently pull to remove. zif too deeply imbedded go to medical centre for assistance, hope this is of use

  • Great replies ,thinking get rid of cactus plants ,they bite !

  • Maybe soak in bath and try when they are asleep?
On myself I use a bright torch light/lamp and tweezers but it’s hard with kids!
