We aim for 1-2, but it usually ends up being a lot more. I let my children pick the books (I don’t mind if there the same ones, but they do tend to pick different ones). Maybe after you’ve read the books she’s chosen, you can pick one and try a new one with her?

We read my 2 and 4 year old 6 to 8 books a night. They are usually the same books as requested, but we do try and mix them up a bit 🙂

My baby is just 2 months old so books and attention span are short! I try to read a couple but am guided by his cues and don’t bear myself up if it doesn’t happen

We read 2-3 books every night before bed. Normally 2 that we choose to read and then we finish off with our sons favourite book that he’s currently in to. He loves reading though and could read a dozen before bed but we restrict him to 2-3. Throughout the day he might toddle off to read on his own.

It’s very normal for kids to like the same books over and over again. We would try a new one every week or so by insisting that Mum wanted to read it. Sometimes the kids would ask for it again, sometimes not. But we probably read 6-8 books a day to the kids, and although there were favorites, there was also some variety.

Each child picks one each before bed and we try to encourage rotation. When they go to bed they have 30 minutes of reading time themselves . One can read the other is just getting there but loves to look through them. . Throughout the day we sometimes read others or they do themselves. It’s so good to see them with a love of reading.

I second that repetition is fine !
Each time your child reads or hears a book read to them, they learn more about the story itself. Each pass through the text or illustrations allows them to dive deeper into the story’s meaning, preparing them for more complex narratives down the road. With fluency and comprehension comes greater reading confidence.

We read our children at least three books every evening. We usually let them pick if they like. As the previous poster said, the repetition in kids books is great for their development. As boring as it is for you, they probably love them 🙂

That is totally okay – in fact, the repetition can be better for vocab and language development.
