General guidelines for how much milk a child each should drink are: 2 – 3 cups per day for children 12-24 months; and 2 – 2½ cups per day for children 2–5 years old. For children over 5 years old, the daily recommendations are 2½ cups to age 8, and then 3 cups for ages 9-18.
Btw, none of my 9-18 yr olds drink 3 cups of milk

I think they sure can have some milk besides their yoghurt and cheese. My 15yr old, 14yr old, 9yr old and 5yr old still do as well (even when it’s just a cup a day and even when one of my kids is on diary free and uses vegan options).

Even if its breast milk or your just giving folder formula you should do that over cheese and milk I dont think it’s an issue if you want to it’s fine just make sure they’re still getting plenty of minerals and vitamins and nutrients in food

Maybe try offering cups or bottles of water first? I wouldn’t worry too much though, my daughter still has a couple of cups of milk every day, as long as they are encouraged to be active and not left to fall asleep with a bottle of milk. Kids generally know what they want and need though! follow your instincts mumma!

I still gave my kids milk just not as much. They generally had it before or after a sleep and before bed. I gave it to them in a cup not a bottle.

My kids would have had a cup of milk a day at that age. If they are eating a balanced diet then I feel they shouldn’t really need to be filling up on milk.

my daughter is 17.5 months and our MCHN nurse also advised at age 1 to minimise/stop cows milk. We decided that she still wanted it, so we are still giving her 1 bottle upon waking (unless she wakes late then we skip it and go straight into breakfast), 1 bottle after she wakes from her afternoon nap and 1 bottle before bed. She drinks it all, eats all her meals and seems perfectly happy. I would go with your own instinct of what your kids need.

My kids, when they were between 1-3yo, were still having an afternoon nap. So when they went to bed of a night and for a nap, I gave them a bottle of cows milk. 2/3 milk and topped up with hot boiled water from the kettle

I started my daughter on cows milk just before her 1st bday as she wouldn’t take formula or EB with a bottle or cup. She had one cup of milk to start off as i was back at work then i gave it to her in morning and at night once i stopped breast feeding all together. My daughter also has yoghert, cheese ect but they still need their milk. Dairy is so important as they grow.

How much water do the drink? It is important they have plenty of fluids. I can’t remember at exactly what age we stopped the bottle or extra drinks of milk. Maybe you could start reducing the amount of milk you give them and encourage them to drink more water. I would cut out the day bottle completely before the night one. We switched the night drink to a spillproof sippy cup and they drunk it before going to bed as part of the night elimination process.
