Hello!

I have a 5 month old boy and I feel like I should be having ‘play time’ with him more than I do. However I’m not sure what I can do with him at this age and for how long each day I should spend playing with him. Some suggestions of what other mums do would be greatly appreciated.

Sit your baby in front of a mirror and show him how to play peekaboo with his own hands and face.
Take a favorite toy and cover it with a blanket. Ask your baby “where did it go?” and see if he tries to pull the blanket away, otherwise pull it away yourself.
I did about 4 blocks of play time a day.

  • The sandpit and paddle pool is great when the weather’s nice. Other than that just get down on the floor and play with their toys with them.

  • How much time do you have to spare? Of course babies benefit greatly from one on one time with mum and dad, so as much as you can. They don’t really play, you sort of play and they just watch. They’re watching and learning tho….and loving your attention

  • Feed, play,sleep
So feed, play for 30-45 mins then sleep and repeat

  • Personally babies at 5 months don’t really play too much, with my son (and daughter albeit 8 years ago) I just put him on the floor with a few toys around him and showed him the toys. I would then sing a few songs (row row your boat, humpty dumpty, five little ducks etc) and maybe read a book. His attention span at that age wasn’t great so our time was limited to usually 30 mins. I would try for twice a day however sometimes I only had time for once a day. Anything is better than nothing.
