At 8 months I’m guess bub is rear facing? You could give them a toy, play some child friendly music and talk to them. Tell them you’re going (insert where you are going) and it’s going to be fun etc. Some kids suffer from reflux which is worse in the car but at a guess I’d suggest they just want to see what’s going on as they are more aware of their surroundings. Could also be the sun shining on their eyes? That was an issue with mine
