Hello!

Hi,
I’m 15 weeks- nearly 16 weeks pregnant and I know I’m probably just paranoid, but does anyone else have watery clear discharge? I’ve had it today on and off and it’s just like little wet patches in my underwear, sometimes I can feel a gush almost. I stupidly read about amniotic fluid leaking and how dangerous it can be and now I’m super paranoid it’s amniotic fluid and not just discharge. Has anybody else had the same experience? I booked an appointment for tomorrow but I can’t stop panicking about it even though I know that it’s more then likely just discharge.
Sorry for the tmi!

  • I didn’t get a gush, but there was a large amount so I knew it wasn’t discharge – went through several layers of clothing to soak the chair in a short period of time. It was more watery and smelled different – you will be able to tell the difference.

  • I had my waters burst at 21 weeks, it feels like a gush, if you are ever ever in doubt go straight to hospital, never leave it.

  • Always go and see your midwife but ammonic fluid has a very distinct smell. In the words of my brash midwife “it smells like sex”. You will probably also have a gush when baby moves, not just going from lying down to sitting or standing

  • Definately see a doctor or midwife. Amniotic fluid also has a little bit of a sweet smell. It doesn’t smell the same as urine or discharge.

  • My advice would be to see your GP or Midwife like you are to be 100%

  • I am so glad you’ve booked a medical appointment – best to be sure. I didn’t have this experience, but I do offer the reassurance that bodies do a lot of weird things when you’re pregnant and most are harmless.

  • Thankfully, telling the difference between amniotic fluid and leukorrhea is usually pretty easy. When the discharge is amniotic fluid, it feels like a steady trickle or gush. It also has more of a light yellowish tint than a white one and a thinner consistency than that of leukorrhea.
Leaked amniotic fluid can also be mistaken for increased vaginal discharge. A good way to tell if the wetness in your underwear is a loss of amniotic fluid, urine or vaginal discharge is to use a panty liner and observe the characteristics of the fluid.
