Hello!

This is my first pregnancy and I’m wondering how to make the most of my midwife during delivery? I would love to hear about the experiences of other Mums.

  • Frankly, mine were pretty useless. I didn’t find them particularly helpful. I’d make sure you have a good support person in case yours are like that too.

  • Make sure you are clear about what you want from your delivery and post birth. And no question is too silly – no doubt they’ve seen and heard everything!

  •  They are normally trained to deal with women who are having normal, uncomplicated pregnancies. Midwifes are great to answer any question or you can bring up any concerns you may have. Good luck.

  • Tell them what you want before you are in the middle of labour, that way they can help your birthing partner make decisions for you when you want to punch them both in the face lol. I thought the obstetrician would be there a lot of the time but they aren’t so don’t assume your midwife knows everything.

  • Stay calm, listen to them, ask any questions you have as they pop up. They’re really good at letting you know what’s happening usually. In public hospitals it’s likely you won’t have your midwife with you the entire time you’re in labour, they tend to juggle a few delivering mother’s at once. Bear that in mind as well.
