Hello!

I’ve just purchased a walker for my 7 months bub. I haven’t started making him sit as of now. How should I start? He has just started sitting, and does not crawl yet.

  • I put my babies in a walker at around 5 months if age. It had lots of support all round mind you, to hold bub up. I have heard that putting them in a walker or jolly jumper too early can affect their leg development, but I didn’t have any issues with mine. It actually helped my son who had turned feet and legs from being a breech birth

  • yeah when they can start holding their weight a little bit more

  • When they are ready. When he is pulling himself up on things and starting to scoot around the furniture he’ll start to be ready to push a walker.

  • Has your baby crawled a fair bit yet?? It is very important that they crawl first to strengthen their back muscles according to physiotherapists I have spoken to. Baby should at least be pulling up on something for a few days before you think about a walker. At least the ones made now have “bumpers” so that the wheels don’t get tangled in furniture legs at all.

  • What sort of walker is it – there are ones where their feet can dangle or ones where they have to stand and push it around. If its the first type you ahve to make sure their feet fully touch the floor so the calf muscles develop otherwise it can cause problems later with the muscle shortened and not being able to put their feet flat and like anything don’t leave them in too long

  • Just be careful not to overuse the walker.

  • Pop him in for a few minutes and see if he gets fussy and cries. My daughter at furst didn’t want to use it, i got it around 7 months as well. She started using it properly about a month or 2 later.

  • When they are starting to climb up on things like hold onto lounge chairs or table legs then they will want to start holding onto walkers etc. That’s when they will eventually want to use a walker. My girls did this but every baby/toddler is different.
