Hello!

Ok so my daughter is turning 11 in a weeks time and I want to make her an ice-cream cake but not sure how to go about it? Should I make the ice-cream from scratch? Or should I buy tubs of different flavours and kinda layer them on top of each other in a cake tin? Any ideas help would be appreciated :)

  • Get a cool cake tin mould, lots of yummy lollies or choc and mix it into your favourite icecream flavour (let it melt a little bit) then scoop into the cake tin and freeze.

  • I would buy the ice cream, so many more flavours and it will be easier. I would soften some of the ice cream and stir bits through it. Maybe berries? Definitely chocolates like flakes and m & ms. The possibilities are endless. Have fun, no matter how you do it, it will be delicious

  • I’ve always liked the Macdonalds icecream cake .

  • I would buy the ice-cream as it will be cheaper and less time consuming.
However if you have the time & want to try making it from scratch go for it!
Would be an experience for you & I am sure your daughter will just love it!
I’ve never had much luck making ice-cream so I wish you the best of luck with it!

  • I made mine with shop bought ice cream and I layered it. I added M & Ms and Violet Crumbles/Flakes crumbled in between layers. 100s and 1000s sprinkled on top

  • I just got vanilla ice cream and divided intone containers, crush malteseres into one, m&ms into one or whatever lollies and then Layer it in a lined lasagne dish – ice cream cake

  • I would go with the cheat options; cheaper too. Ice cream cake is pretty good!

  • I’ve read about using plain store bought vanilla ice cream, softening it slightly, dividing it up, mixing in your favourite lollies and chocolate flavours, layering it and refreezing. This way you can get all the favorite flavours of the Birthday person.

  • I make icecream cakes a fair bit. I used to buy a 4 litre neopolitan ice cream and layer in a lined cake tin. I would chop up favourite chocolates and sprinkle between layers. Now that I have an icecream maker I make from scratch now. An easy and tasty cake.

  • I would buy different flavours to make myself! Not from scratch!

  • i love the recipe in the comments. i would just buy one but if you made one, that would be so special

  • I think if you don’t want the extra work involved, just buy ice-cream instead of making it but maybe add some extra ingredients into it like crunchie bars or smarties etc.

  • i make one that you use a 2 litre vanilla icecream, spread half on bottom of springform tin, whip 300 mls cream, with 1/4 cup icing sugar. fold in a tin boysenberries that has been well drained and 1/2 cup choc chips spread over base and freeze 2 hours, than pull it out and soread raiming half of icecream on top, dust with cocoa

  • I’m coming back again to read other answers! But I wouldn’t make the ice cream from scratch unless you’re REALLY keen.

  • either way would be good or if you live near a wendys they do really nice ice-cream cakes :)
