Do any mums have good ways to get toddlers to connect with a new born? Thanks

  • When the baby is born, get them to give the baby a gift they’ve picked themselves. You might like to give them one “from” the baby too. Let them hold the baby, and let them help look after them – just things like getting the baby wipes for you.

  • I agree just loving & caring for the baby together and watching and singing over it.

  • Two words: Communications and Involvement.
Nothing beats the feeling of togetherness.

  • not really, it will come as they get older. just let them watch and help with the bath? nice when baby smiles back at them, help push the pram?

  • Totally agree… Get them to help with everything you can handle them helping with

  • include the child in every thing singing to the baby helping you at change time. Give the child little jobs to help you with the baby for example if the baby has a dummy let the child help put it in the babies mouth. Let them help baby’s bottom and things like that and also give the older child attention when baby is sleeping so the older child gets Mummy time as well

  • Let them be Involved be it singing or reading or fetching a nappy helped my boys to this day he still gets him bottles and blankets its nice :)

  • Get them involved. Toddlers love helping so getting them involved in day-to-day care will help eg. ask your toddler if the baby is smiling, ask if the baby is asleep, ask them to get a toy, blanket etc. for the baby. Generally making them feel special by being a part of caring will hopefully work.

  • I agree with a special gift from the baby to the older sibling and vice versa — make a special trip to the shops with the older sibling and let them choose something for their new sibling, keeping them involved in everything I believe is very important so that they don’t feel as though they’re being pushed aside. Also if the older sibling is old enough then let them help with things like getting the nappy and wipes ready at change time etc, simple things help them feel as though they’re a big help and give them a sense of responsibility for their baby sibling. Good luck!!!

  • A present from the baby is a nice way to start, also before bub is born if you give your toddler a baby doll that they can bath, dress, feed, rock etc… to do while you do the same with bub. Always remember to cuddle all together but to also have just one on one time with your toddler that is just special to them, story time for example. :-D
