Dogs are great with kids, they are part of the pack, cats however …you can keep them!

We had no trouble with our dog but I think cats are very different

How did you go with your cat?

you’ll have to make sure you keep an eye on your cat, my parents had to give their cat away when my brother was born and he tried to scratch my brothers eyes out.

Not sure about cats – I had 2 indoor small dogs. Didn’t seem bothered with them at all – had a sniff every now and again.

I had a strictly indoors male cat when I bought my baby boy home from hospital, I never had any dramas with him. I would be more worried about dogs than cats.

I would get a piece of clothing that your baby has worn and ask your partner to take it home with them and give the item to your pet so they can get used to the smell. It’s never easy to introduce a new member of the family I hope all works out for you

Even though you are home now this is what we did – as soon as bub was born, DF took a blanket that bub had used home for our dog, then when we got home, i went out to the dog without the baby and patted him and gave him love and then my partner introduced bub to him. That way the dog didnt feel replaced. It worked for us!

We have a golden retriever, and introduced him to our baby girl the minute we got home. We decided we didn’t want to delay that time so he didn’t get jealous. She is older now and often when he comes inside he isn’t bothered by her at all. my advice would be to do it sooner rather than later.

My parents had a cat before my brother was born and unfortunately they had to give the cat to his sister, my aunt as the cat didn’t like the baby taking all the attention and was quite naughty.

I remember how worried i was when i first brought my son home. But everything was fine. Use your common sence, dont leave them alone together. Maybe its time for your cat to have alittle outside time when you are sleeping. You will be amazed how quickly your cat will adapt. My now 18month old and my old grumpy cat are best friends. Trust yourself, you know your cat best.

never ever leave a cat alone with babies. they like to smoother them. a little introduction each day so the cat doesnt get jealous, maybe ask your vet for some ideas to help you
