Yes, yes and yes!! Never going back. Best investment ever. we can choose different rooms to turn off and on (because everyone has a different idea of warm and cold) and it works so fast throughout the whole house.

We currently rent and for the last 3 yesrs we have had ducted heating, i couldnt live without it now! The kids can run around in nappies without getting frostbite!
We can all be comfortable and just wear casual clothes, we opwn up windows often though to keep the air fresh and flowing nicely!

I have no idea of the cost effectiveness of ducted heating. In my house any type of heating is difficult because it’s an open plan home and hard to keep warm so we just wear extra clothing.

I would say it’s a definite benefit having heat pumped through the entire house. How did you go with it?

It is good for heating the whole house and I’m pretty sure it’s reasonably cost effective if you use it wisely. I have a couple of friends who have ducted and a wood fire, we are in Tas and it gets cold in winter

Yes is my only answer. It’s so useful especially if you have small children and babies.

I would not live without it and have not found our system to be very expensive. We moved into our new house about 8 years ago and this system (gas) has been reasonably priced, however in our previous house the system was really expensive so I guess its worth checking the energy efficiency.

I guess it depends on where you live. I was in the upper Blue Mountains recently and central heating was essential. We had a 3 bedroom house so we couldn’t turn it off in the rooms we weren’t using, other than to close the vent. For a larger house you could invest in a zoned system which allows you to turn the heating off in certain parts of the house.
Is it cheap to run? No. BUT it’s more efficient than portable heaters and it’s less hassle than fire places.

I love ducted heating and I think it is more economical if you weigh it up against running smaller heating units that tend to chew up a lot of electricity.

We have central heating. we have it in three bedroom and two living areas and kitchen. Its run by gas somehow and have found it good. As it is only in the main living areas of the house.. I only ever turn it on at night for a hour or so and in the early morning for a hour to take the chill out of the air.. Some have it on all day and night but i dont see that is affordable.. Our bill at the most expensive is around $150 FOR TWo OR THREE MONTHS but that also includes the hot water service, fees and gas top stove..On the bills i do not use heating it is about $50. It also helps when the kids are sick over night to stop the awful old air coughs… This is the first house i have it in and will from now will have it in every house we live in, if it were just me and my hubby i might not. But with kids that need heating i will.. I wouldnt make the mistake of getting it in every room just where it is needed most..

We have ducted heating right throughout the house and find it fantastic particularly when I am in the shower. Wouldn’t want to be without it and we keep the entire house at an even temperature so no musty smells in unused rooms.

We have same as mom111362. You can turn off bedrooms ect if you wish but I like all rooms to be the same temperature that way you are not walking in different climates.

Ducted heating does mange to reach the whole house, but so can a wood fire if you plumb in some ducts in the roofspace. However, I’m not sure that ducted heating encourages you to be careful. It is often a waste to heat the whole house when you really only need 1 or 2 rooms. I’ve also found that a single room heated (with wood fire) actually draws the family together and (for a few months of the year) we are actually in the same space! I wouldn’t change it for anything. I think ducted heating would end up sending teenagers to their rooms all year and would be detrimental to relationships!
