Hi Ladies, has anyone tried any lactation cookies before and if so do they work? What brands would you recommend?

  • I believe they maybe helpful with increasing protein and calorie intake. Ensure the ingredients are tailored to increased milk supply

  • I haven’t tried lactation cookies, but with my first I drank lactation tea. Honestly, I have no idea if it worked or not, but I was willing to try anything!

  • I used to have them occasionally but I never had an issue with supply so not sure if I can say they helped or not. They are tasty and they are all yours so that’s a win. I made them myself sometimes as well as they are so much cheaper than buying them pre-made

  • I didn’t try them, sorry – but check the ingredients to be sure there’s nothing harmful.

  • I tried lactation cookies, lactation consultant and on demand feeding as well as pumping in between and none of it worked. Breast feeding is hard and unfortunately doesn’t work for everyone

  • Woolies Macro brand brewers yeast cookies are good to have on hand. Anything like this is always going to be in addition to so eating well, getting enough rest/sleep (as hard as that is) is what is mostly needed. Don’t be afraid to talk to a lactation consultant (or similar) which is usually via your state’s health care (well in SA it is!)

  • This is new to me. I just ate healthy when I was breastfeeding

  • There are lots of recipes on line and I would try them before paying for ready made ones.

  • This is quite an interesting read and it comes with a recipe too

  • There are lots of yummy variations with ingredients.

  • Yep they work. Can also use Milo or oatmeal, Anzac biscuits made at home. Good luck

  • They can be homemade to suit your taste.

  • The most effective way to increase and maintain supply for babies needs is to feed on demand; 24/7, as often and as much as they seek it.
Supply = demand so the more milk you remove the more milk you make.
If you suspect something else might be hindering your supply touch base with an IBCLC, the gold class of lactation support, and check babies latch and positioning etc
In regards to cookies; anyone breastfeeding needs plenty of fluids and food/energy to produce a good milk supply; so keep up the foods & fluids

  • I recommend making them yourself if you can, there are plenty of delicious recipes online and you can play around with flavour to suit you. As for them working I definitely had a better supply after eating them.
