Hello!

My 2 month old son really doesn’t like tummy time. I put him on his activity mat and I talk to him and play with him but he starts fussing within a couple minutes. Any tips?

  • Couple of minutes is plenty. Once he gets more strength you can increase the time.

  • We used to put ours on her tummy while laying on our chest because she would cry every time on the floor. once they learn to roll over though all they seem to do it flip onto their tummy!

  • No babies are particularly fond of tummy time, you could try placing him on your chest, same muscles being used!

  • there are some good comments here

  • dont stress to much about it

  • My little girl hated tummy time with a passion until she could roll over from her back to her tummy on her own at 5 months, now she loves it and plays like that every chance she gets. Don’t stress over it, every baby is different and unless her head is getting flat from laying on her back too much I don’t think its a worry.

  • I would not stress, he is only 2 months old, he may want to see what is going on around him. Try again when he is a liitle older. some babies don’t like it, each is different.

  • I just kept trying with my daughter :)

  • Keep trying it. he will get used to it over time. my 3 month old is still a bit like that. she likes it then gets cranky. but slowly, slowly she is getting to like it.

  • Tummy time includes when they are on their tummy on your chest. this might be more enjoyable for longer periods, but keep trying short period on the floor. Distract bub by singing, toys, etc

  • Mine never liked it at first . Just keep with it and he will start to tolerate it more.

  • how did you go with it?

  • i played music during tummy time for my little one

  • Don’t stress mine hated and rarely did the tummy time thing, they sort things out in their own time. Even my premie is doing things in normal time so it didn’t hold them back any.

  • When your lying on your tummy your body weight is pushing on the tummy it maybe uncomfortable for him,During World War two when there was a shortage of beds for injured servicemen they put some in Hammocks , they found they healed faster. The curvature of the spine in a hammock is similar to the way a fetus is in the womb. This is why you have the adjustable hospitable beds today,He maybe just a little young for tummy time , try as some Mom’s suggested you lying on your back and placing him on you. I’m sure he will like this.

  • Yes………Not stress. If he doesn’t like it, just do it for short periods and then turn him over. Try laying on the floor with him and wiggle your fingers or a puppet in front of him. But my little boy hated tummy time and wouldn’t lay there until he was older. He is fine by the way!

  • I never had a problem with mine they tend to enjoy it so much they would fall asleep like that especially when they had sore tummies only way I could settle them

  • Put bub on his tummy on your tummy. He will be more comfortable so may not fuss as much. Prop yourself on a pillow and lay him on you for a while.

  • Chelsea Grover fyi

  • I never worried about it. If bubs wasnt happy then I didnt do it.
All this drama with poeple saying that you MUST do this and must do that….dont force bub to have tummy time if he dosnt want it. Have you ever heard someone say that there is a a problem with their teenage daughter because she didnt have enough tummy time when she was a bub???
Later on when hes able to roll back and forth then he can choose on his own.
