Hello!

I have had Mastitis 3 times in the space of 4 weeks, in the end I’d had enough (main thing is I tried!) but I stopped breastfeeding when my baby was 8 weeks old. She is now 6 months old, I get a small sharp pain in both breasts where the mastitis was. I’ve had an ultrasound and that’s ok, but i’m still worried. is it normal to still hurt?

  • It can take a long time for breast infection to finally be gone. I wouldn’t worry too much but I would also follow up with a GP after six months or so.

  • If you are concerned go to your doctor… or get a second opinion.

  • Trust your own judgement!

  • Not sure, I guess we have a lot of veins and milk ducts that need to settle down

  • I think I will get a second opinion or at least a blood test. I just don’t want to seem like a hypochondriac but I guess better safe than sorry.

  • Trust yourself, the fact that you have taken the time to ask a group of strangers should be enough to make you know you need to check it out further. Always trust your own instincts

  • I would trust your instincts

  • If you are really worried go to another doctor and get another opinion. Only you know your body and know when something isn’t right.

  • I’ve had mastitis numerous times and usually once I’ve taken the antibiotics for a few doses all pain is gone. I would be getting it checked out or getting another opinion.

  • I would always consult your doctor, But I did often get some pain after stopping breast feeding.

  • maybe see the doctor and see what they think

  • It sounds like you need some heavy antibiotics it get on top of this!

  • thanks for your help everyone! and sorry if TMI tilly but they still do leak at times so you could be right. I asked the doctor again about the ultrasound as before he just said it was ok and take some nurofen, but today he gave me a copy of the report and it said simple ductal ectasia which is still mastitis! 4 months on you would think it would be gone!

  • Have they checked for thrush in the ducts? Sometimes deep pain in the breast can me from thrush that was on the nipple that has got in under the skin and the only sign is pain. If you’re not getting anywhere with your go maybe try a really good lactation consulatant. They tend to be more clued up on these things. Hope you’re feel better soon!

  • I really hope your pain is subsiding. Good luck and hope it all gets better soon.

  • I agree with other mums. Go back to GP and get a referral for a second opinion.

  • I hope you find something out on what is causing this

  • Second opinion as well. I would also check to see what happens when you squeeze them to whether or not milk still comes out as sometimes you can still get milk and this may be the reason behind your pain.

  • I agree with other mums, to get a second opinion, definitely get that checked out!

  • Wow, pain 4 months on doesn’t sound right. I would definitely get a second opinion!
