The critical thing is the age of your youngest child: if they’re bored or scared, you’re in trouble. Check out Disney classics, and anything by Pixar. We’ve recently started on 80s movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future, but our youngest is finding some of those too scary. Comedies seem safest.
An all time favourite in our house is Baby’s Day Out, its a movie the whole family can enjoy.
We’re Back the dinosaur movie is another family favourite.
The Home Alone movies, Matilda, Mrs Doubtfire, Miracle On 34th Street, Smoky Mountain Christmas, The Santa Claus movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mr Bean, Batman movies, Madagascar, Smurfs, The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe, A Pigs Tale, Babe 1 & 2, Charlotte’s Web, Jumanji, & don’t forget the classics Cinderella, Beauty & The Beast, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, The Magic Faraway Tree.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth – any of the Muppet movies (theres heaps!) – The Spy Next Door – Kangaroo Jack – Stuart Little 1 & 2 – Spy Kids 1 -4 – Are We Done Yet? (mine love this one!) – Bedtime Stories – Look Whos Talking 1-3 – Richie Rich – Finding Nemo – How to Train Your Dragon – Enchanted – Kung Fu Panda – Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory – The Goonies – Hook – Matilda – Elf – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1-3 – Little Rascals – Jumanji – The Santa Claus 1-3 – Back to the Future
All Disney/Pixar movies are great!! I am continuously getting distracted by my sons movies some of our favs are the ice age movies… Over the hedge.. Open season and so on
It is sometimes hard to find what one person likes, so depending how many in the family, get each to make a suggestion, put them into a hat, draw out one, and then see if your local video shop has it in. This way everybody gets a say, and one will be extremely lucky. If not this idea, when you go to hire, ask t he s taff, tell them what your family likes are, and ask for suggestions from them. I find my local video shop knows all the new ones, and can be most hellpful when I need something different.. try it anyway
