Hello!

My 4 year old son has picked the quick around two of his fingers and now they are red and swollen. Could they be infected and is there any treatment I can use at home before getting in to the doctor?

  • I just put a bandage with Bactroban on infections like these.

  • Agree with mum888 – those chemists really know their stuff.

  • Poor Kiddo . Maybe take him to a chemist and if it is not too serious the pharmacist will look at his finger and suggest something . If it is swollen he may need antibiotics to get rid of the infection . Hopfully it is not too bad .

  • keep it bandaged with antiseptic cream like savlon

  • Keep his fingers clean and dry and protected from germs. Also seek some advice from your local chemist, they may be able to assist with something to ease any infection. Ongoing problems with his fingers, then I would suggest a visit to your GP. Best of luck, poor little boy, sore fingers are just no fun!

  • I would cut his finger nails as short as possible to prevent him picking the quick & maybe paint the nails with a stop biting solution to keep them away from the mouth.

  • Yes they could be infected. I would ask at the pharmacy what you can use
