We went through the same thing when buying for our first little man.
We bought a couple of 00000 and everyone told us don’t buy anymore and to only buy 0000 and 000.
Our little man was so tiny and was actually in 00000 for almost 3 months!! I personally think buy a couple of everything but don’t go overboard – just the minimal basics in 00000, 0000 and possibly 000.
My thought is you also need to keep in mind how big the parents are – my partner and I are both on the smaller size, he’s average size and build and I’m under 5ft, so we were bound to have a smaller baby, in theory

0000 is a safe bet for newborn but don’t buy too much. Buy more 000 and LOTS of 00. I found with all three of my kids that everyone bought me 000 and when they grew out of them (around 3 months) , I had very few 00.

When I had my babies I was mainly given (and had brought) 000, however my babies were all 00000. I would recommend the smaller the better

I’d personally recommend 1/2 0000 things for when Bub is born but a majority 000 that way they last a bit longer

More zeroes means smaller size, its hard to guage till the baby is here

I’d say tall to your child and find out what sizes they actually need. You’ll find people get gifted a lot of small sizes but not many older ones.

0000 (4×0) is newborn. 00000 (5×0) is small baby (our 00000 baby was 3kg), and 000 (3×0) is usually 0-3 months, but l have known big babies to be in this size as soon as they come home from hospital.

Definitely 000, my eldest was in 000 at 2 weeks old due to being a big bubba.

i wouldnt get anything below 000 unless youre expecting a very small baby. My smallest baby was 3.9kgs and never fitted into 0000 – and he outgrew his 000 size clothing within weeks.

Oh, how exciting for you to have your first grandbub soon. 0000 and 000 should be ok, really depends on bubs size.

It’s usually 0000 but 000 and 00 is probably better to gift as babies grow so quickly, I think the parents would definitely appreciate the bigger sizes for a bit later on.

0000 for a newborn but personally I find that EVERYONE buys newborn clothing. I loved it when people gifted the next size up and bigger. Just be sure to shop for the seasons if you do upsize though. We had so much newborn stuff and to be honest they outgrow things so quickly and they don’t wear half of it. Congratulations though ????
