Hello!

Ok so my little girl is 6 and completely toilet trained but has to wear a night time pull up because she just cant wake up during the night to go… I have tried pretty much everything!

She sleeps so deeply u cant wake her up! ….. So i read up and this is a common thing andthat she will grow out of it… But she is embarrassed… So has anyone else been in this same situation that can give me any other tips other than alarm training… that is gentle and that works? I am looking for help with Night time toilet training

  • When we were training my older kids we would take them to the toilet while they were sleeping and sit them on the toilet and say do a quick wee, in their sleep they would do a wee and then i would pop them back into bed.

  • babe – three generations of bed wetters at night only in my family…. My Dad was 11, I was 9, and my son 13… Just please, don’t shame or get cross… It is actually a hormonal imbalance – and resolves itself when the kids are ready.. You cannot make it happen – I cannot stress this enough… PLEASE keep coping xxx

  • My son wet until he was 13yo at night. It was never a biggy to me – got used to changing sheets in the middle of the night. I was told by a specialist that they all stop wetting in their own time, and it is a small part of their brain that does not mature until later – I don’t know any adults that wet, so be cool, and don’t giver her a hang up – I feel your pain x

  • Do not be concerned, see your GP, get a referral to a paediatric urologist to ensure that there are no underlying problems, but bladders mature at different rates and in Australia approximately 5 percent of the adult population wet the bed, not something that we discuss!!, withholding fluids will have no effect, I had twin boys, identical, one was dry at 3 the other at 17, do not embarrass her, just make it a joint effort to wash the sheets and this will help more as she will be more relaxed, as if she is going to bed scared she is going to wet she is more likely to wet the bed, make it just one of those things, she will grow out of it, it is just annoying and can affect their social life, good luck but do not stress over it.

  • Hi! You might want to keep an eye on other unrelated events. What I mean is, I know that some kids are more likely to wet the bed at this age if they’re over tired. Is she getting enough sleep? Is there anything else that could be impacting her? I’m not saying that this is definitely the answer, but just that it’s worth considering. Good luck with finding something that works for you.

  • 1 see your doctor make sure they understand this is an important issue for you and you want help and are willing to see a specialist if thats what it takes.

2 wake her up and make her go to the toilet on your way to bed assuming you stay up a few hours longer than her, if you wake up early again wake her and make her go to the toilet before letting her get some extra sleep. also depending on your child you could take her out of pull ups at night time to encourage her to make sure she gets up or to let the wetness wake her up you will need to be prepared to have an excellent mattress protector and change the sheets but this method really depends on your child.

  • In the hot weather be careful not cut fluids back too much as it can cause dehydration.

  • My 7 year old is the same, but nowadays he only very rarely wets the bed, so I can confirm that they do grow out of it! Minimizing drinks in the evening seems to help, and you could try taking her to the toilet before you go to bed. If you can work out what time she tends to wet, you could try waking her half an hour before that time to try to get her used to getting up herself. We just decided to keep our son in pull-UPS and make as little issue out of it as possible, and he had gradually just become dryer more often. Good luck!
