Hello!

I don’t know when to try my son with peanut butter. He is 14 months old. How old were your little ones when you tried. And what do I look out for? Thanks

  • I can’t remember how hold my daughter was when I gave her peanut butter, but I remember it was just a tiny bit at first and I watched her carefully for any signs of trouble.

  • I’d try now – unless you have a family history of nut allergies you should be fine. Try a little on the lips first then a tiny bit on toast. I personally think people leave it too late to expose to certain foods – if exposed sooner they may be less likely to react.

  • I would try what Mel1 has suggested. A little on the skin, then lips, then bread.

  • Most kids are fine, it’s only the minority that are allergic. If you or hubby are allergic to nuts, keep a close watch of avoid. If not, just introduce slowly, eg a bite of yeast with peanut butter on

  • oh jeepers – I found out the hard way massive nut allergy at about 14 months, just be careful lovey

  • i was told at 8 months by the child Youth Nurse and i did with both mine and never had an issue, but each child is different. a tiny bit on a slice of toast.

  • About 1 and a half …. watch out for any changes…swelling, rash, wheezing etc

  • my son was nearly 2, I was so worried but he was fine.

  • My little girl was just over one, we are lucky because we are right near the hospital

  • Try rubbing a tiny bit on the inside of his wrist. If any redness develops avoid it and have him tested. If no redness, rub a little on his lip. If no swelling or redness, let him try a tiny bit on bread. Hopefully he can tolerate it.

  • From 12 months you can try. As long as he doesn’t get red, swelling, itching etc he should be fine.

  • I first gave it to my son at 6 months old just a very light spread of it on toast and he was fine he’s now 4 and loves it on toast and his sandwiches.
Things to look for red face, spots, swelling of the face.

  • Put some on toast just a quarte piece and thinly spread and see how that goes

  • just try a little bit at first

  • there are some good comments here

  • Start with a small amount & leave for 24-48hrs before trying again. Major reactions will present fairly quickly so look out for rashes, trouble breathing etc. if he’s been eating for some time now then you’ll find he has probably already consumed products containing nuts & should be fine. Try in the morning so you have the whole day to keep an eye on him. Also depends on when you began solids in the first place. Research has now shown that many people start babies too late & they are more susceptible to allergies. Good luck. Hope all goes well.

  • Same signs of a reaction as you do with any new foods.
    Rash, swelling, trouble breathing, etc

  • Both my boys had tried it around that time if not before. I just put a little on a piece of toast and let them try it. If no reaction I would give them a little more the next day. If no reaction after that it was a free for all.

  • after they turned one my children had it.

  • I gave it to my son at about 10 months. There are no allergies in our family and I just kept an eye on him. He was fine.
