  • If you breastfeed exclusively, your first period may not return for several months or 1 to 2 years if you keep breastfeeding. It differs per person and also depends of the frequency you breastfeed, if you have pump session in between and if you top up with any bottles.
If you bottle feed or partially breastfeed your baby, your periods may return as soon as 3 weeks after having your baby.

  • Different for everyone – 3mths with ft breastfeeding for me :(

  • Mine took 18 months. I know someone whose period returned after a month.

  • With both of mine it returned once they stopped feeding through the night

  • Everyone is different mine came back at 6 months although I was still feeding 2hrly and my son was not yet on too many soilds-was so annoyed!

  • mine returned a month after finishing feeding (14 & 13 months) with my first two and before finishing feeding (9 months) with my third.
    Every body is different.

  • I breast fed for 15 months, but my period came back at 8 weeks!

  • I am still enjoying my vacations :p

  • Mine returned at different times with each child.

  • My daughter was about 14 months when mine returned and she stopped breastfeeding at about 16 months. But, as many others have said before, everyone is different

  • how long did it end up taking?

  • How long did it take to return?

  • It can take a while to return – not I really missed it ;)

  • Has yours returned yet? :)

  • It was about 14 or so months for us

  • Hope you found some of these comments helpful.

  • I am sure it was more than a year for me, I did breast feed my babies for a long time though.

  • Thanks for asking this! my bub has just turned 5 months and i am dreading it returning!

  • Mine just came back, bubs is 5 months and 3 weeks. She is on solids twice a day and since three weeks old has been a once a night feeder between 9pm and 7am. It really sucks after more than 12 months without.

  • As people have previously said every one is different but around the 12 month mark for some.
