Hello!

I have been investigating the option of pet sitting for my cat and dog when we go on holidays later in the year. There seems to be the option of in my home or at someone else’s (at least for the dog). Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this sort of thing offering advice etc. I’m trying to avoid the boarding kennels.

  • I’ve used a boarding kennel once before. It was ok but not like being at home. I think it’s the nicer option to have someone come to your house to pet sit, less stressful for your animals

  • We have a pet sitter in when we go away, she charges 30 days for 2 cats, 2 visits a day plus mail, watering plants, change litter box etc. This is great, peace of mind for the cats and also the house is being looked after

  • My cousin used a pet sitter for their dwarf rabbits where the animals stayed with the pet sitter. They visited a few times in advance and felt really comfortable with the sitter. The bunnies seemed to have a great stay and were well and happy when my cousin returned from holidays.

  • When we had our dog and went away we asked our neighbour to check on her twice a day and to feed her.
We now only have chickens and guinea pigs and they still pop over and feed and water these for us when we go away.

  • We have someone house and pet sit its a win win, pets are happy and our home is secure

  • I live in Adelaide, and I found that having my dogs looked after in our home worked best for us. Animals do like their own homes, as it’s less upsetting to their routine. Our “pet-sitter” visited our home twice a day, fed the dogs, groomed, them, played with them and also walked them, and they were fine.
