Hello!

Hi All,
Trying to live healthily… I am in the process of ridding our home of plastic. I have thrown out all the plastic containers, and replaced them with glass. Lids however are still silicone type material. I cook in stainless pots, and limit our use of the microwave. I grow some veges, but am useless at it. I accept I have to share our tucker with possums, birds and bugs LOL
I would love to hear your tips to lead a healthier life in our modern world x

  • give boxes and containers containing things like strawberries to child cares and kindys for craft. Have a jug near the sing and fill it while waiting fur hot water to come through to wash dishes and then use that jug water through the day for the kettle.

  • We eat healthy meals and try not to have snacks and exercise on a regular basis!

  • We recycle and also reuse to leave a small footprint on this precious world.

  • We grow our own produce and also buy from the local farmers market.

  • With my family, I like to buy no packaged snack stuff (unless for a treat), I like to head to the local fruit & vege shop and buy a big load of fresh fruit and vege for snacks, instead of a sandwich for lunch sub it out for a healthy salad roll or sandwich or (which my son likes) cut up cucumber, cheese and tomatoes. Basically try and rid of packaged stuff and sub it out for fresh bought or home made =) Anything home made you can simply turn healthy by changing the flour, changing the ingredients or simply adding in more ingredients that are good for you =)

  • washing hands, tidying up after every meal, regular routine for house cleaning.

  • Recycle as much as possible, but mostly things that you not everything you want.

  • Good topic! The comments are certainly interesting to read! Thanks

  • Do you want to live healthy and minimalistic. Limit the junk (no only food wise but house wise). Konmari Method (Japanese) is amazing. My friend got me onto this and in the last couple of weeks, I have cleaned out so many things. It teaches you to let go of what is not important. But you do it slowly.
Other ways I try to live a healthy life that has changed in the last 3 months is I found a new gym that is more suited to me, taking care of my fitness. For cooking I try to bake and cook everything from scratch and limit what I buy pre packaged. I aim to use the healthiest products like coconut product’s and fresh foods. For my soul, I know attend church every Sunday morning (Sundays are now my favourite days, before I hated Sundays and found them boring).

  • thanks for the bicarb and vinegar tips – I do it a lot, but not enough!!!

  • You could try and make your own cleaning products? That way you aren’t buying more plastic bottles, usually you can use vinegar and bi carb to make those things :)

  • you could get a worm farm and put all you veggies scraps into it, its a great thing to be able to use the liquid that comes out the bottom of the worm farm on your veggies and plants in the garden.
You could also get a few chickens for your back yard they can be free during the day but get put back in their hutch at night. Imagine watning to cook a cake or have eggs for breakfast and been able to go get a freash one from the chooks.

  • thanks for sharing your hints and tips

  • Firstly, there are natural ways to stop the birds, possums and bugs getting your veggies, I’ve been reading it on here. Secondly, to be healthier, I watch what we eat and how much. I also make sure we get outside for regular exercise. And I make sure we all get enough sleep every night….well, I try with that one

  • I use coconut oil to stir-fry, and extra-virgin olive oil to dress salads.
